Hello everyone,
As things stand now, it will take me 4 years to get my ADN. I'm really questioning this.
My first year in college was last year, and instead of fulltime studies as I had planned, I had to drop down to part-time due to a year from hell with my family and husband, plus I went through a cancer scare myself.
Anyhow, I have two semesters left (Fall 05 & Spring 06) to complete ALL pre-reqs which leaves the following two years of strictly clinicals.
Currently I have a 3.5 with 18 credit hours. I am thinking of taking two of the classes over, I got B's in both, but should have gotten A's very easily.
Anyhow, wondering what others would advise. I hate taking 4 years to get an ADN - from here on out, it will all be fulltime studies. So, would it be wiser to try and enter a BSN program?
I would suggest looking at all the programs that are possibly availible in your area...dont discount any program...
My EFC is very low as well...I applied to a private university that I thought I could never afford, but I was pleasently suprised...it couldnt hurt to check out the univeristies and talk to their financial aid office...you never know you may be surprised, I was!!
I agree with the "if you can afford it" plan. I can't though. Though it will take me 2 more years from now to get my ADN it would take 3 for my BSN and 1 more year of school = one less year of working. And at the current pay for a nurse that's a lot of cheddar. I'm still going to go 18 more months AFTER my ADN to get my BSN so I can get my CNM but for me I need to have the RN ASAP so I can work while I do the rest of it. I'd rather not struggle along on my husbands salary any longer than I have to!
This is such a matter of personal circumstance! If I was 18 and didn't have three kids to consider I'd take my time!
PS Princess74.. I turn 31 in a month and a half!

It took my aunt 10 years to get her ADN. Well Im not sure if all 10 years count but she started her prereqs, ended up going to school for LPN then went part time for about 3 years to get her ADN. I say do what works for you. I, myself, will be done prereqs at the end of July (A&PII
) and have been accepted to a 3 yr evening nursing program that accepted me for FALL '06.
Now I have to figure out what to do with my year in between.
Whatever you do make sure its right for you. I could have been done my prereqs last fall if I went fulltime each semester. But one can only do what they are able to. And if I did that my GPA would be down in a hole somewhere :chuckle .
Getting your BSN is quite expensive (from what I researched), I think it would be smart to go through with your ADN but make sure you go fulltime. There are some schools that offer summer nursing classes so you can get done in less time. Then get a job and get your employer to pay for your RN-BSN program. It sounds good to me
Good luck in deciding.
