i am very happy to say i start the 2 year rn program fall 2009.

this spring 2009 i am taking biology & psychology. other than psychology i am not taking an of the other courses it is not required. i am taking them during the nursing courses.

fall 2009- a&p i + a&p i lab , nur 120,nur 110

spring 2010- a&p ii + a&p ii, developmental psych, nur 130

fall 2010- nur 240, pharmacology,microbiology,

spring 2011- nur 250, nur 260, sociology

has anyone else taken all there courses at once?

instead of doing the 3 year break down?

(one year pre-reqs next 2 years nursing)

if so i would love to hear your feed back.

I dont know, my program is 1 10 credit course per semester, that is 4 semesters long. I couldnt even think about taking another class on top of what I am taking and I made sure I got all the classes I could done and out of the way before going to nursing school- maybe you could do some over the summer? that would be my suggestion

I don't mean to scare you... but do you have any medical experience?... I think taking A&P's plus your nursing classes are going to be very overwhelming.... not to mention you need a good understanding of AP to understand the abnormal and nursing implications..

My school offers it has a 2 yr program.. but doesn't except many people who don't have all the prereq classes done I think there was 2 in my class one needed AP the other micro... If you feel like you can do it go for it.. but l would feel overwhelmed

Specializes in Home Care, Psych, Education, Case Management.

wow.....nursing, microbiology AND pharmacology all in one semester??? I couldn't imagine doing those classes together......good luck!:uhoh3:

Specializes in Orthopedic, Corrections.

I am in an ADN program, and our counselors really encourage spliting up the courses "pre reqs" in one year, and nursing courses the two years after. You can do it all at once, but I would think twice if you have a lot of family obligations and or work. The pre reqs are all memorization (a lot!!!) Nursing course tests are different, and require you to get used to a different way of testing, and applying information. Not to mention the hours you will spend at the lab practicing new skills. Clinicals are over for this semester, for me but that is at least 3 hours of homework a week. That does not include reading, studing, making notecards ect. I am not trying to discourage you, and I am sure you can do it if you put your mind to it!!! If you are allowed, you could try this

SUMMER 2009- A&P I + A&P I lab , PHARMACOLOGY

FALL 2009- NUR 120,NUR 110,

SPRING 2010- NUR 130, DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCH

SUMMER 2010- A&P II + A&P II lab, MICROBIOLOGY

FALL 2010- NUR 240,

SPRING 2011- NUR 250, NUR 260, SOCIOLOGY

I seperated the heavy memorizing courses, from the nursing courses. Just a thought.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I'm currently taking A&P with my nursing classes and man is it rough. All I do is study all day everyday. It can be done, but I wouldn't wish this course load on my worst enemy. If you happen to fail A&P then most schools won't let you advance with your nursing classes. Try to take some classes before you start.

I wouldn't recommend taking those pre-reqs with your nursing classes, especially science courses, your best bet is to knock out the science courses before nursing classes.

I agree- take AP first before the start, I took micro and nursing in the same semester and it was very challenging..but If you have the drive to do it, anything is possible. Nursing school has a lot of work involved because you have classroom, lecture, lab and projects..so be prepared to work your booty off!

ugh!

everyone is different...

i took nur101 intro to nursing, a&p i, med micro and human growth and development in one semester.

i gagged on growth and development but the other classes i enjoyed. med micro was tough and i love science. i'd recommend taking med mirco with a lighter load.

i took ap ii, and three nursing classes with clinical. i'm sorry i did that!

if at all possible i would recommend getting all of your pre reqs done and then take your nursing core by itself.

i find myself studying 3-4 hours for every hour i am in class. i have 34 hours of nursing classes each week...i had to quit my job.

good luck!

Yeah I don't want to discourage you from what you have planned but man that seems a little bit much...I was lucky and finished most of my prereqs prior to Nursing school because I was working towards another degree...The way my program is set up is crazy, and its probably why it is changing after this year. This is what my schedule has been like, and mind you I am finishing a sociology degree as well so that is why i have extra hours here and there....

1st semester

Fundamentals 6 hours

A&P and A&P Lab 4 hours

Non parametric Statistics 3 hours(not a nursing course or prereq)

2nd semester(I would not recommend this to anyone....it was rough)

Adult Health 3 &4 8 hours

Micro and lab 4 hours

Pharmacology 3 hours

summer term

Psychiatric Nursing 6 hours

3rd semester

Adult Health 3 and 4 8 hours

Trends in Nursing 2 hours

Sociological Theory 3 hours( this is my writing intensive course for other degree)

and my soon to be 4 semester

Pediatric Nursing 4 hours

Maternity Nursing 4 hours

NCLEX review 1 hour

ACLS Prep 1 hour

Methods of Research 3 hours( my last class for my soc degree....

I will graduate in may with my ADN and Bachelors in Sociology. I have all of my bachelors classes except the nursing classes to finish my BSN and I only have 5 classes to get a degree in Psychology. I would definetly recommend spacing out your classes more, maybe take one or two more this spring....Also I would try to get both of your A&P courses out of the way prior to starting your second semester...I wish you luck....

FALL 2009- A&P I + A&P I lab , NUR 120,NUR 110

SPRING 2010- A&P II + A&P II, DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCH, NUR 130

FALL 2010- NUR 240, PHARMACOLOGY,MICROBIOLOGY,

 I wish you luck. I wouldn't want to take on that kind of schedule. I had a 4.0 on my prereqs, and I am doing good in nursing school, but I think if I had tried doing all that together, my grades would have suffered tremendously. No offense, but that schedule sounds like hell on earth. You need to keep in mind that nursing school involves so much more than what you will be doing in the classroom and at clinicals. You will spend so much time doing care plans, papers, projects, studying, practicing skills, doing online assignments, etc., and the things you do outside of class take up more of your personal time than the stuff you would do for some of your other classes. It may be doable if you don't work or have a family, but if you do, I think your grades will suffer some. I'm not trying to sound pessimistic and discouraging, just realistic. You may want to knock out one of your A&P classes before starting nursing school and either the microbiology or the pharmacology. Maybe you could do that over the summer. I do think it is possible to accomplish all that, but by the time you finish, your fellow students may be taking care of you during their mental health clinicals. Good luck to you. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to, but just prepare yourself ahead of time. :wink2:
