  1. I'm sorry to hear. I graduated in 2009 also this market is very bad. I took anything I could get and worked in nursing homes for 15 months. Then relocated accross the country from massachusetts to arkansas. You may have to go where the jobs are. Thats just the way things are and once you get experiences doors start to open. I wish you the best of luck and am sending prayers and kind thoughts your way. Apply for anything. Remember its easier to get a job when you ahve a job.
  2. I had charge and 3 other nurses assess her. Would a port x-ray show it? The cardiologist was aware of the A-Fib. I think his thinking was that it wasn't sustained and because of the D/C of amniodorone would cause it? I'm not sure
  3. Hearts are just interesting. Maybe when it said evacuated 400ml it was in the pericardial sac. Mechanical electrical plumbing all in one
  4. she didn't get the dopamine until she was on the unit.. All the cardiologist gave me was boluses. When I read the md note it sounded like the clot was in the heart is that possible?
  5. My unit manager and the ICU/Tele manager said I did fine my documentation was all there etc. But I want to better myself and be prepared for those "Oh Crap" moments.
  6. Where to start. First off I Was in there every 15-20 min reassessing inbetween giving 4 units of blood. 2ndly her heart sounds did not change she was a very large women. I was looking for input. Not I failed to assess my pt. Her rhythms didn't change to the heart block until after we were actively transferring her. blood sugar fine. I was checking the monitor and asking my teletech if the rhythm had changed shift. I can't watch it the whole shift. She had no kneck distention and they had been drying her out her Lung sounds were clear. All I had was the symptomatic BP her Pulse was 80-100. I was asking what would you have done. I think I did the best I could with what I had presenting but IF I hadn't would you have done. Tests Assessments etc. Not I failed to assess my pt.

I had a pt last week S/P CABG 2 wks prior with complications. who's BP dropped to 74/40 and was symptomatic cool clammy. Presented on tele NS- low ST. Called cardiologist got orders for 250ns bolus. some improvement on BP she dropped again. 2nd order of 250ns bolus. MD mentioned he thought he had dried her out to much because of pleural effusion. 2nd bolus didn't help. I put got an EKG A-fib nothing on tele (strip started with PVC) so looked funny. Got 2nd NS. updated MD of info. 3rd NS 250 bolus admit to ICU NO Dopamine tirate bp What would you have done in this situation? Anything I can do to improve care if similiar situation comes up? Come to find out they evacuated a 400ml clot in her heart that was pushing on her chambers (is that possible?) and did a pericardial window.
  8. Think its funny that women think we have it better... we get sexually harassed all day (not that i don't mind), but have to be careful of what we say back because it carries more weight. I've had a nursing supervisor speak to me about leaving a toilet seat up. I've dealt with nurses who outright disrespected me because I was a man. But I've also been told by many people that they view the male nurses as more caring and better caregivers. On that note I think its due to the fact there are less male nurses and the ones that are there doing the job because they want to and truly do care. I've met many nurses doing it because its stable work mothers hours etc.
  9. +1 @ malenurses post... I'm an ADN.. I only got an intervbiew at one hospital because l knew 3 nurses there and they pulled strings its not nice out there. I had PCAs in my class who couldn't get jobs at the hospitals they worked in. ObamaCare froze alot of the hiring around that time. There is a nursing shortage of "EXPERIENCED" nurses but that doesn't help new grads. Suck it up apply everywhere take the first job you can and just keep plugging out the applications. I've been a nurse a year and have already had 3 jobs. The last one l love and will be there for awhile.
  10. Not true... I graduated in massachusetts and was only able to find jobs in nursing homes put out 100+ applications worked a year in LTC and ended up moving 1500 miles away to take a hospital job depends on where the needs are and if there willing to invest the time and money.
  11. I ended up getting a job in arkansas. Can l get the fingerprint card from the local state police baracks... I live in massachusetts and am moving to ark.
  12. I recently gave up in mass. I work subacute right now... but can't get a hospital to return a call... flying out of state this weekend for an interview
  13. I live in massachusetts currently have my MA RN license. Does anyone know how to get the information to apply for a license in a compact state. Also do l have to live in the state or can l just apply
  14. Farren Care Center Turners Falls.... LTC psych... good times
  15. It sounds very nice of you... and I do not mean any disrespect. But as an aide I would get them something small. I've always felt aids work way to hard and are way under paid. I always buy them dinner when we order out... idk thats me. Any nurse who trained you will appreciate you for the hard work... Dunkins is always nice tho :-D
