Yale 2015

Published

I've never posted here before but I am going to be applying to Yale School of Nursing this fall for a 2015 start in the GEPN program, CNM/WHNP cohort. Wondering if there are others out there preparing to do the same? I'm heading down to their info session next week.

Congrats on submitting your application!

Question #5 is giving me the most trouble for the essay! :nailbiting: There's a lot of things to address. I feel like it's an essay within an essay. :arghh:

GuiltyLove, for the recommendation requests, I think you need to click the "notify/remind" button again. I can't remember exactly what that button was called because one of my recommenders didn't get it the first time after I entered and saved their information. I clicked notify again and then she received the e-mail.

I'm waiting on one more LOR. I know I can submit beforehand, but I'd rather wait. Should be able to submit by the end of next week.

Question 5 was hard but a friend who read my essay instructed me to just be honest. I believe I gave them 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses, and how I am working to improve those weaknesses.

5+ Strengths, 1 Weakness, and an area of improvement of tomorrow, but acknowledged to improve today. I revised my essay over 30 times. I am writing a note elefant3 because I would recommend submitting a week and a half early. *You never know what is not received by admissions until you hit the submit button.

Did anyone see the google glass interviewing on facebook? I would love to see how some of the students critiqued themselves and what correlations there are for flaws over time. Opinions?

Hey Easy, I actually submitted this morning. Soon after, I got an email from Admissions saying my application was complete (I had sent my transcripts weeks ago). On to the waiting game!

I submitted my app! I'm still waiting on transcripts, one more recommendation, and GRE scores to arrive. Sadly to say, I sort of just recycled personal statements that I sent to other schools because I ran out of brainpower to write better things. The application fee is very expensive...

Deadline is coming soon!

How is everyone doing on the application and those essays!

I finished my essay but I'm having two friends look at it to see if it looks good or not. All I have left is to get 2 letters of rec. Hopefully I will submit soon. How are you doing on it?

Ack! I wish I had reviewed this post sooner. Glad to see you guys are getting your apps in! I am in the process of riding my boss to remember to do my letter of rec (We are about three weeks past the initial deadline she set for herself...) and trying to feel moderately confident in my application. Now that I'm past the panic of getting my applications in I am horrified by how long I have to wait to find out whether or not I'll be stuck at my job for another year.

Maybe you can try to find another job in the meantime? Yeah, I'm trying to get my letters in too otherwise I'm pretty much done with the rest of my application.

Question about the first essay question: 1. Why are you choosing to pursue a career in advanced practice nursing?

I am writing about how my experiences led me to choose a career in Family Nurse Practitioner. However, does this answer "why I'm pursuing a career in advanced practice nursing?" Is my essay too specific? Do I have to be more general?

Same goes for the other questions. I am writing how certain volunteer experiences led me to choose a career in FNP, not just "advanced practice nursing."

It would great to hear what you guys have to say! Thank you!

I'm also having people look over my essays, but I'm thinking if my essays are too....specific? I may be over-thinking it since it's my first time applying to grad school.

The essay ask why you're choosing a career in advanced practice nursing or how your background relates to this. However, my essays explain how and why my experiences led up to being a FAMILY Nurse Practitioner. Is this what they want?

So there's a difference between advanced practice nursing and nursing. I interpreted the question as why I am considering becoming a NP rather than a RN. If you've answered that, then you should be set.
