Hey guys I just finished phone interviews with two unit managers and was given an opportunity to visit the units and shadow. They already want to start the background check and reference portion. I'm just wondering if anyone has also had the chance to shadow/visit and what the chances of getting an offer from them are. Thanks!

Let us know how it goes. YNHH is one of my goal work environments. Best of luck to you both!
Mine went well. Looks like a great environment. People are sincerely excited about their jobs and their colleagues. They are starting the reference/background step with me. Now I am curious what is the likelyhood of an offer if this next stage is started. I have a feeling they do it across the board and it is not necessarily indicative of an offer. Not sure. Hope someone will comment.

Most places won't waste their time nor money running reference checks and background checks if the applicant isn't being considered.
That being said, I interviewed at Yale with both HR and the hiring manger (the position was not at the hospital but in one of their facilities, but the hiring process is the same as Yale is the employer.) and I was not asked for references nor to do a background check. I did not get the job. So, I'm fairly certain you are most likely in the running for the position. Best of luck!
Thanks, CT Pixie! Fingers crossed.

If you make it to the job shadowing portion at YNHH, then it's pretty safe to say that you're a good contender for the position; pending the job shadowing experience. At the shadowing experience, they are not expecting you to help out or demonstrate your knowledge, however you will be evaluated for a good fit. As someone who went through the process at YNHH and received a job offer there, my best advice would be to demonstrate how you would fit in as a team member on the unit. There may be other people applying and shadowing for the position and you may all be equally qualified at that point, but the job offer(s) may ultimately go to the one that will mesh the best with the unit culture.
Well I shadowed both units and got a call from HR the next day saying they both were offering me a position and I got to choose the better fit! Looks like I'll be starting in Feb, super pumped!
Woo, congrats!!
Hey, cupcake, me too. Got an offer before New Years. Starting in Feb. Just have to pass that NCLEX (urgh).
Congrats to both of you INN_777 and cupcake_lake... any advice on interviews and shadowing? I too have an interview and shadowing opportunity in the next couple of weeks :)
Hi rinskins!
Congrats on your upcoming interview and shadow! Advice? Nothing you probably have not heard before.
Think through behavioral questions - it's unpredictable what you will be asked but you will learn to think that way and will be able to apply that to any question. Plus it will make you review your entire clinical/health care experience so it will be easier to come up with examples, when needed.
A shadow, in my experience with both YNHH and another hospital I interviewed with, is about 70% for you and 30% for them (rough estimate, of course:)). You will literally just shadow the nurse and he/she will tell you about the unit, the patient population, the job etc. The shadow nurses usually don't grill you with questions, but they still form an impression of you - in my opinion with regards to your cultural fit more than anything else. As in "do I like this person?", "would I be able to work with them?".
Good luck! Hope you like it and you get it!
