Yale-New Haven Unit Visit / Job Shadow

Published

Hey guys I just finished phone interviews with two unit managers and was given an opportunity to visit the units and shadow. They already want to start the background check and reference portion. I'm just wondering if anyone has also had the chance to shadow/visit and what the chances of getting an offer from them are. Thanks!

Hello!

I am a new grad and trying to get into YNHH. I was wondering if there is anything specific that you may recommend to do or say. I have gone to shadow and interview before but was denied for a position.

Hi rinskins!

Congrats on your upcoming interview and shadow! Advice? Nothing you probably have not heard before.

Think through behavioral questions - it's unpredictable what you will be asked but you will learn to think that way and will be able to apply that to any question. Plus it will make you review your entire clinical/health care experience so it will be easier to come up with examples, when needed.

A shadow, in my experience with both YNHH and another hospital I interviewed with, is about 70% for you and 30% for them (rough estimate, of course:)). You will literally just shadow the nurse and he/she will tell you about the unit, the patient population, the job etc. The shadow nurses usually don't grill you with questions, but they still form an impression of you - in my opinion with regards to your cultural fit more than anything else. As in "do I like this person?", "would I be able to work with them?".

Good luck! Hope you like it and you get it!

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I don't work at YNHH but maybe I could offer some advice. What type of degree do you have, where did you attend school- did your school help with your resume? Do you have any experience that might relate to the positions you're applying for? Do you send a cover letter with your resume?

Didn't get a job with the main hub interviewed was going to go for shadowing wasn't selected. Few month's later hired at another hospital under their umbrella no shadow just an interview. A great place to work.

I created my own resume and I send a cover letter as well. I had two interviews/shadow and got denied both times. I have a third interview/shadow experience coming up and I just wanted some tips. Thank you
