YALE GEPN 2022

Published

Hi everyone! Wanted to start this conversation for those who are getting ready to apply once the application opens on June 1st 2021.

I am hoping we can all share information, ask questions, and support each other throughout the exciting journey ahead!

This is a long shot... but I remember on one of the forums someone shared a video where a Dr, I think she was the head of the nursing faculty at Yale, gave a speech on why nursing and she goes in on what nursing means to her. I can't find the video anywhere and I've searched every forum. Does anybody have any clue what I'm talking about and can share the video?

It was a very good video and I think really explains what Yale School of Nursing is all about

So happy to hear your interview went to well! If you wouldn't mind sharing, what types of questions were asked? Did the interviewer give you a chance to ask questions?

Did they mention when students will hear about acceptance or how many students are admitted?

I applied for the FNP specialty- what did you apply for? Thank you ? Good luck everyone! Wishing the best!

Questions were:

a. Specific to my life, ie: my essays, transcript, CV, and then some.

b. Geared towards my specialty.

c. Essentially, they were evaluating my personality traits and beliefs.

Specializes in Psychiatry.

I just interviewed for PMHNP this morning, I think it went well!

Apparently, they had a very large applicant pool for PMHNP this year, so that makes me a little worried.  Anyone have an idea as to when we'll hear final decisions?

I am happy to hear it went well! That is great. What types of questions did they ask? I applied to FNP.

My questions were ~roughly~ along these lines

-Why nursing?

-How do I manage stress?

-Why Yale?

-How will I contribute to their mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion?

-How will I contribute to serving underrepresented communities?

Other than that, it felt more of a conversation.  I had a couple of questions for my interviewer too!

Had my interview. Same kinds of questions as everyone else. Just wanted to give a quick stat for CNM/WHNP. Interviewer said about 80-90 applicants and only about 20 seats. Of those 20, there are significantly more seats for CNM and dual than just WHNP, simply because far less applicants for just WHNP.

Thanks for this update! My interviewer said there were about 5 seats for just WHNP ?? makes me sooo nervous

There are only 20 seats, but are interviewing a total of 80-90 applicants?

My interview said the same! But mostly because there are far less people who apply for WHNP alone. That’s kinda comforting because it’s probably the same ratio of seats to applicants as others!

20 seats, 15 CNM or dual and 5 WHNP only. She didn’t specify if they were interviewing 80-90. But she said typically the CNM/WHNP as a whole as 80-90 applicants and they’re aiming for a class size of 20.

I just had my interview for WHNP—my interviewer was beyond lovely. She only asked me two questions: one was about a potential problem I could see arising during my future practice that I will want to address and the other was about my stress management strategies. I prepared to be asked many questions which turned out to be unnecessary, possibly because I answered the other questions people have previously mentioned in detail in my essays (e.g., why Yale? Why nursing? Why this specialty?). It was clear that she had taken the time to read through my application materials. The interview lasted 36 minutes and primarily consisted of pleasant conversation and the questions I had for her. In addition to preparing for various questions, I practiced a breathing technique to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which helped calm me immediately before entering the interview. Good luck to everyone currently awaiting their interview dates. Now the waiting game begins again!

I had my interview earlier this morning and I think it went really well. Basically what everyone said, formal style question and answer but very conversational. Exact same questions everyone else was asked as well.

I didn’t ask how many seats there were for pmhnp, did anyone have a chance to ask and knows the stats?
