UCSF MEPN 2022
Hi!! I was denied from UCSF but still get email notifications so I thought I'd hop in for a sec. If I could give any advice at all for your interview... if your interviews in the morning practice 2 days before, over prepare. Know what u want to say, memorize things even. Practice through questions, every question and know what u want to say. And the day of, as hard as it is, relax and try not to think about it. I over prepared and stressed so hard and practiced up until my interview for my top school I wanted and I felt like I wasn't having a conversation and I was scrambling to speak, not fully listening to the interviewers questions. It was all out of stress and excitement. It was a good interview, but I knew I could've done better I was just too stressed bc I wanted it so badly. The next day I had another interview for a school in the afternoon I didn't care for, didn't prepare for at all and it went 10000 times better bc what I practiced the day before was still there but it wasn't scripted, felt natural, and I was answering the questions genuinely and thoughtfully as oppose to wanting to say what I planned to say. I feel like it's good to take a pause after a question is asked, shows your actively thinking as oppose o following a script. Im not a bad interviewer but the stress got to me. Let your excitement for the program show but don’t let it get to u!! U got thissss!

Hi! I saw your other post too.. two masters and work in psychotherapy, thats all so amazing! And seems like you're more than qualified! I do know that they look at the applicant holistically and maybe you can contact admissions inquiring on what maybe they were looking for and what your application didn't portray. Bc I too only have a BA in psych hahah... To answer your question, I just graduated college in May 2021 with a BA in Pre-med Psychology. My GPA was around a 3.4 and my prerequisite GPA was probably around a 3.8. I currently work as a case manager at a psychiatric urgent facility serving the underserved/housing insecure population and I sit in on my clients primary care and psychiatric appointments and collaborate with their providers to get them back on their feet and re-assimilate back into society. In high school and during my summers in college I worked front desk at a behavioral clinic. I was in 2 research labs and volunteered at food pantries and rescue missions and had an internship in an ICU department in a hospital. In my application I really pushed/emphasized on my experiences and how that drives my want to be an advocate and a resource for disenfranchised communities. And how my end goal to open my own behavioral clinic, like the one I started at, incorporating a collaborative integrative model of care for long term outcomes as oppose to bandaid fixes we see today. I hope even some of my rant helped you a bit LOL

It was in regards to earlier posts about some receiving responses to our thank you emails to our interviewers and @ChemGirl's response to yours and @Rubytuesday821's comments about communicating with your interviewers afterwards. They way my interviewer made it sound was shortly after the interview they submit notes and then after that the decision is completely out of their hands. That any communication afterwards simply doesn't have a weight on admissions because the notes are already submitted. I was just trying to ease self doubt but not trying to negate your experience! If you've been in communications with your interviewer then they must've really connected with you and that probably showed in the notes they sent to admissions! I was just trying to maybe explain that it might not be the case for everyone and bc they're experience wasn't like yours it doesn't mean bad news ?

Thats just my assumption! Bc at times when I finished answering she kind of slowly talked and typed and apologized saying "sorry, I just want to take notes during so I can fully record what you're saying." And at the end she said she really doesn't know how or when the admissions team decides. And then at the end it was kind of a technical difficulty and she couldn't sign off and she was like maybe I have to submit my notes to admissions before I can end the call. and that was it LOL.. Again, just my assumption and maybe its just my stress trying to analyze it all hahah.. But me saying it doesn't have a weight isn't discounting those that have had communications and thought you really connected with your interviewer! It was just me trying to level the stress for those discounting their own experiences ?

I feel you! The more anxious I get waiting on decisions the more I've started second guessing my interview! But just remember that you were confident in your interview when you did it and its just stress getting to you! Also the way my interviewer was talking about it it made it sound like they don’t really have an input in the decisions. They basically just write short hand what you said and the discussions you guys had and then they send it off to admissions and that's the end for them. So whether they responded to your thank you email or had communications afterwards, it sounds like it doesn't have a weight really

Im also from California! Southern California though and went to college in San Diego and just graduated 2021. I was born in Jersey but moved to California when I was like 1 and only been back to the east coast a couple of times. I just keep thinking about the conversation I had with my interviewer when she told me it was -5 wind chill in New Haven that day. My mouth literally dropped. If I'm accepted that will definitely be a huge adjustment LOL
