Yale GEPN 2021

Published

Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.

Hey all! It seems like just yesterday when I was also applying! I’m in the program now so I’m happy to help you all out.

I’ll just quickly say this. If you’re a minority, you’re going to have to put on some toughness before coming. All the dreams of yale would only be manifested after the GEPN year. You would deal with super awesome professors and some professors who may just offend you. some people like me  get offended when the n word is used no matter the context.... some people also believe context is needed to help lessen the impact.

You’d meet super awesome colleagues and some who don’t really care about anything more than passing (which is valid). That being said GEPN is pretty rigorous especially the fall semester so just prepare yourself.

I surely want to see more and more minority students coming into these spaces. So please keep pushing to get in!

Okay everyone, it's been 5 days. How much longer?!?! Haha. Hope everyone is holding up okay!

I know the wait is killing me! I applied back in September and I have been anxiously waiting for mid-december for so long it feels like

I hope everyone had a quiet and restful Thanksgiving.

I suppose interview decisions come out in 2-3 weeks? That’s soon! Hopefully closer to 2 than 3 ?

Hi guys! I emailed Jana about interview decisions and she said to expect them between December 18-22. Almost there!

Such a hectic wait... what are folks doing to prepare/keep themselves busy? Hope you’re all doing well!

Thanks so much for asking! I think it was a little earlier last year (based on prior comment on this thread), so I would've been anxiously checking email all day probably starting end of next week. At least we know we've got a bit longer ?

I have an interview at another program in January (Rush) so I try to practice some interview questions in my free time. I need a lot of practice, because my answers are so long and ramble-y.

Specializes in Applicant.

@secondtimer14 @futurenp6388 wait wait wait, you both aren't already compulsively checking your emails? haha!

I mean, I've been checking it a *little* compulsively, that should go without saying... ?

SAME! This is the slowest few weeks of the year and that is saying something...

The waiting is driving me crazy!... Does anyone know what type of interview questions to expect (IF we are offered one?)

From combing last year's threads, I'd expect at least the basics - tell us about yourself, why nursing/(your speciality), why Yale, how do you add to diversity of the school. Be able to show you really understand the role of an advanced practice nurse, I believe this is one of the most important things. Also have a few questions to ask the interviewer about the program. And have at least a few anecdotes of how you handle conflict, overcome an obstacle, strengths and weaknesses.

Again from reading past threads, it seems many interviews were super conversational. Also, they said the interviewers had always carefully combed the applicants essays/resume, so be fresh on what's in there and prepared to expound on your experiences.
