Yale GEPN 2020

Published

Hi All,

I have been on the lookout for the 2020 thread but figured that I'll have to create one. I am sorry if there is one that I am not aware of.

I am a 2020 hopeful that is looking to make a career switch. I was at one of the information sessions where I gained further insights on the application process and the program. I took the GRE yesterday and was around the 50th percentile for both Q&V.

One of the changes to this years' requirements is that you don't need the GRE if you already have a masters degree or would complete one before the start of the 2020 session. I haven't taken the major prerequisites, but I will take and complete them in the summer of 2020.

I will start talking to my recommenders from next week, I have a tentative list that I composed with a view of having them tell different stories about my candidacy.

May I crave the indulgence of both current and past GEPNs and the benevolence of prospective class of 2020 to make this thread the best one yet. Your views and insights are welcome and appreciated!

@tomatofriend I think it's through the application portal but not 100% sure.

One more week guys! Let the Countdown Begin!!!!!

It is always through the portal. During my year, admissions sent out notifications at 8 am EST so the candidates on the west coast woke up to find their letter waiting for them so less stressful waiting for those in a different time zone. Other people kept refreshing their portal the day the announcements were to be sent and got to see the results before the e-mail notifying them they had an update to the portal got to their inbox. I would suggest that you just wait for the e-mail instead of staying by your computer all day but that is harder said than done.

9 more days until we hear back from admissions.

Are you sure about this timeline?

Yes. I was told by admission that decisions will go out no later than Jan. 26th.

I really hope that they miraculously finish their process more quickly than expected and release decisions by the 23rd or 24th at latest. It would be nice to have a full 2 weeks to arrange travel to attend the admitted students day.

Guys - is it just me or have Yale financial office previously send us info (other than Fafsa) about their own financial application to complete that I didn’t know about? I completed my Fafsa application but never receive or even know to complete the school own separate application until I received an email this morning.

They definitely had not - I also sent an email specifically asking about this form a couple days after my interview, and they said it would NOT have to be submitted until after admissions decisions were relayed. So I think they may have just come up with this plan

I was thinking the same thing when I received that e-mail this morning!

I wonder if everyone got this email...

Omg -- they made it sound so tantalizing! "We would like to include a financial aid letter with our offer of admission..." It made me also wonder whether everyone got it!

that feels like good news lmao. I’m getting extra nervous and excited! They definitely have made their decisions. I think they are now sorting out the aid students would receive. Prayers up!

I just wish we could know sooner than the weekend. I don’t want to buy plane tickets from the west coast if I don’t know for sure and prices will go up by the weekend. Well, all part of the grad school experience I suppose...
