Yale GEPN 2016

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I didn't see a Yale GEPN 2016 thread, so I thought it would be good to start one! Does anyone know the average GPA and GRE score for the 2015 entering class?

I got an interview for PNP and am wondering about the phone interview situation as well. I know they try to no let it affect their decision, but I can't help but think it will have an impact, at least subconsciously. Having a face to put with an interview could be a leg up. But yes, planes and lodging are daunting. Has anyone checked out the prices at the Marriott with our group discount?

I received an interview invite for FNP. I am also from the western U.S. and plan to travel to campus. It seems flying into NYC and taking the train from there will probably be my best option.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread and best of luck, regardless of your interview decision!

Got an interview offer for ACNP. To the folks here who are in the program -- any need to have a detailed career plan when I show up? I got the impression from the application process and from what I have read about interviews at different schools that concrete plans are looked at more favorably. In fact, I know I want to be in acute care, but I don't know what specific sub-specialty or nursing work environment I want. I'd prefer to learn more about them and get some hands on. Any current/alums know that type of thing is frowned upon?

My heart was in my throat for all you guys today! I remember how nerve-wracking today was last year. Congrats to those who got good news, and definitely chins-up for those with not great news. You are all going to have amazing experiences becoming nurses wherever you end up!

I thought the same thing about in-person vs phone interviews, so I drove 12 hours to mine. That being said, I have heard of a bunch of people who got in via the phone!!! I think that's wonderful, that they really don't let that interfere with the decision. They understand it's not feasible for everyone to get there.

I agree with @mammal though, about the information session. The whole experience of interviewing was so impressive and I learned so much about the program, the faculty, the vibe here, etc.

Some other options, if you can't be there in person are a) that I think they do Skype instead of phone if you'd rather, and b) if my memory serves, last year MP compiled all the main points that were gone over in the info sessions and sent out a mass email for those who could not attend so they didn't miss anything. Because she's great like that. But I wonder if they could Skype that too........ (worth asking about?)

A bunch of us will be in New Haven for most of winter break, so if you are coming from out of town and decide to make a weekend of it for your interview, please let me/us know if you need recommendations on restaurants, sights to see, etc :)

Mammal, SOME of us were studying for their anatomy final instead of checking allnurses :)

Sorry to everyone who didn't get in. There is a spot for you out there if this is your passion! It's a small network of NPs, so I bet we'll all be colleagues one day, anyway.

And for those that did get some good news, I'll be joining Mammal for interview days, hopefully!

It's $119/night!

Hi neurol_oh_gee, that would be awesome if you could give some recommendations for sights to see! I got an interview and am so excited to visit! :)

I got an interview as well! Beyond excited. I hope we will have the chance to meet some of you current-GEPN Angels on here. In an email MP said that if you can't make an in-person interview that it will have no negative affect on your chances.

Also, I'm a new haven local, so any of you traveling from afar feel free to ask me any questions you may have. The New Haven AirBnb market is pretty strong, and pretty affordable. If you want to get a better feel of the city I'd recommend that route.

Best of luck to you all.

Does anyone know what they look for in the interview vs. what is in your application that granted you an interview in the first place? Thanks!

also, congrats to everyone who got interviews! And keep your head held high for those who did not!

I will second air b&b. Also if you have time the Yale art museum is ah-maze-ing and free. Hope to see some of y'all at the midwifery potluck or during the student panel.

I think this is a hard question because all of the specialties and interviewers are so different. For me it was an extremely extremely informal and reassuring interview. I also am not on admissions so I have zero idea what they look for in applications. To me the basic GEPN is smart and brings a lot to the table with very unique backgrounds. I don't have the metric. We are all extremely accomplished people and all of us I think at one time or another feel like everyone here is way smarter/more well travelled/accomplished than we are and have no idea how we got in.

Seriously. Just be you.
