There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.
Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.
Anyone else out there applying?
I am fairly certain we each have an individual 1/2 hour slot with a prof in our specialty. the rest of the day is forums, question/answer, information and meet and greets I think. just what I've gathered from reading past posts. I am so excited but a tinge anxious. should be a great day - I am very excited to meet other applicants! k.
sirgalahad: excited to meet you as well. I can't keep track of everyone's specialties with these screen names! remind me your specialty again?! I'll do much better once I see faces.so tomorrow goes from 830a -230p right? people have individual interviews past 230? mine is at 11a. I am nervously excited. feeling very confident. I am actually on the train to NYC to see the opening night of a one woman play - the author of a book I'm reading. figured it would be the perfect night for a healthy distraction!!I still need to try on my interview outfit - I have it in my head but need to see it on before I crawl in to bed so I can really rest in peace.long run first thing in the morning to keep me grounded as well as I can be!how will we know who each other are?! I wonder how many people will be at each interview day...tomorrow we will feel like we know SO much more! p--CNM2be: thanks for all your help! can you remind us of the general acceptance rate after interviews a d the sizes of each specialty? also - do we only interview with the faculty listed on our interview invites - or a whole panel?less than 24 hours folks!

Hi all,
I too am a "lurker" and have been following this thread for a while without participating. Thanks for all the helpful info so far. I will be in New Haven at the end of the week for my interview on Friday (FNP) and am revisiting my previous obsession with finding out what exactly a "block interview" is. I'm told that this could mean sharing my interview slot with other students? Granted I never asked SE herself what this means but have just been scouring the interwebs hoping to find an answer, with no luck. Does anyone know? Based on what I'm seeing on here it looks like the interviews are individual, but confirmation of this would be greatly appreciated.
Looking forward to meeting some of you this week!
