There has to be shortage somewhere. The jobs for Traveling Nursing has picked up.
I'm wondering if this has to do with the lack of experienced nurses in specialty areas. The job market in my area is terrible. New grads from two years ago and even some experienced nurses cannot find jobs, yet the ICUs at my hospital hire travelers. I'm thinking it must be cheaper to hire an experienced traveler than it is to train new employees. I don't know for sure... just a thought.

This may be the problem. I work in an ICU as a float nurse with some inexperienced travel nurses. It is horrible. They do their time and leave or resign if they are needed. Dont get me wrong I have worked with some good travel nurses. I have seen more bad than good. I would train a new nurse any day because they know it is hard to find a job. We have new grads from Dec 2009 just been hired at our facility in the last 2 months. It is rough out there. Dont forget hospitals are trying to make productivity. Some nights on the unit work short and some nights are fine.
filled out a appliciation for the heck of it today to see what would happen , GOT a REJECTION email from the HR after 6pm, and no one is in the HR............ it is a Sunday.
This proves the fact that not all postings are actually real positions needing to be filled, or they already know who will be filling them. Terrible.

Once again Yahoo is telling folks to drop the cubicle and go into nursing. I mean come on!!!!!!!!!! If they would check things out they would see many new Grads cannot find work now. They are proclaiming the mysterious 600,000 RN shortage again....................
