WSSU 2020 ABSN

Published

Just wanted to see if anyone was applying to WSSU ABSN program? Wanted to see where folks were applying/possibly planning to move from, and what is your general work background?

I'm from Winston Salem, with both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work. I've done some work as a social worker in the mental health, hospital case management setting and also on the insurance side of social work. Good luck to everyone on submitting applications!!!

For those of you that were accepted into the program this year – what is the schedule like? And very much good luck to you all!

@SPikett as far as our schedule we have class on Tuesday to Friday. This is only week 3 for us. so you must be flexible when doing this program is all I can say for now. Thank you!!!

Congrats again to all of you working in the program now!! You all are awesome. I'm still struggling to get my GPA where I think it needs to be for my prereqs. I am looking at Northeaster University in Charlotte now. Has anyone applied there or know anything about their ABSN program? I can't find much info online.

Hello all!

I'm planning on applying this August for the Spring 2021 program entrance. I have two questions and would appreciate any insight!

Are you allowed to apply to the program with pending classes? Also, I currently only see a paper application that asks about general questions (name, DOB, race, previous degrees, etc)--is there another application that will be made available in August that requires a personal statement, etc? I'm trying to work ahead!

Good Morning!

Hope you’re doing well.
All of your classes must be completed at the time you apply and the paper application is it. Make sure you read 15 times over to ensure you don’t forget anything. Also make sure you have the necessary documents sent to the department of nursing and your necessary documents to accompany your application for the university. Good Luck !

Good Morning!

I fully agree with @queentutt28, make sure you read that application multiple times to ensure you do not leave anything out. In my application packet, if I remember correctly, I included the paper application, paper copies of all transcripts, paper copies of both my ACT and SAT scores and my resume. Even though, they do not ask for a resume, I felt my resume displayed some experiences I had they would not have known about otherwise. I also hand delivered my packet to WSSU nursing department because I wanted to know for sure they had received. To further relieve my anxiety about applying, I also called about a week after dropping my application off to ensure the application packet had all the needed documents. I did this so that if a document was missing, I still had time to take the missing document to the department. Best of luck to you!!

Awesome. You're correct we can't apply to the university until 9/1 as a second degree student. The application is a very basic one outside of other programs that ask for resumes, recommendation letters, and even complete interviews for candidates who meet the program criteria. Good Luck to you as well.

I can't seem to find the WSSU ABSN application. I found a checklist online with a really basic application that asks for personal information and education history--is that the original application that needs to be submitted? I'm super confused because its such a simple one. Here is the link to the application to what I'm referring to: https://www.wssu.edu/admissions/_files/documents/accelerated-application-6-30-2017.pdf

Any help finding the application is greatly appreciated! Thank you ?

Thanks for replying and thanks for the advice! Could you please confirm that this is the application that needs to be filled out: https://www.wssu.edu/admissions/_files/documents/accelerated-application-6-30-2017.pdf. I have tried contacting the university but haven't had any luck reaching anyone.

@FutureNP_1319 that is the correct application. Just make sure you have everything on the checklist. More than likely you won’t reach anyone at the university via phone due to COVID-19, however if you email you should get a response back.

Hi Everyone!

For those of you currently in the program, did you take the NUR 2313 course before applying? Seems difficult for those applying to multiple schools to be required to take a school-specific course in hopes of being admitted. I have not looked at what all the course entails though.

Hi there! No you can't take it prior to acceptance because it's specific to WSSU. It will be the 1st course you take upon acceptance to the program.

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m finding it a bit difficult to find answers to my questions on the website. Could you also tell me, is there a time limit on science prereqs? I took A&P 1 back in 2013. And do you need to have your CNA1 to apply?
