WSSU 2020 ABSN

Published

Just wanted to see if anyone was applying to WSSU ABSN program? Wanted to see where folks were applying/possibly planning to move from, and what is your general work background?

I'm from Winston Salem, with both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work. I've done some work as a social worker in the mental health, hospital case management setting and also on the insurance side of social work. Good luck to everyone on submitting applications!!!

It’s a 7 year limit. It was for us, I don’t think the rules have changed but look under the traditional BSN program criteria as the same standards apply to the ABSN program. No CNA requirement for WSSU

Thanks for replying and thanks for the advice! Could you please confirm that this is the application that needs to be filled out: https://www.wssu.edu/admissions/_files/documents/accelerated-application-6-30-2017.pdf. I have tried contacting the university but haven't had any luck reaching anyone.

@FutureNP_1319

Have you seen the only application? I'm wondering if they added that because of COVID? https://www.wssu.edu/academics/colleges-and-departments/school-of-health-sciences/division-of-nursing2/ABSN-option-application.html

I personally still want to walk my application in as well so I did email and ask if I could do that.

I'm so nervous that I will forget something!

@FutureNP_1319 the second application is the application to the university itself. Last year we couldn't apply until 9/1.

@LMPR126 my apologies for the late response, im just seeing this message for some reason. We had a 7 year limit. Unless that has changed (which I don't think it has) you should be good.

Hello I applied on 7/6/2020. The application is online this year on the ABSN home page. I email someone from the nursing department and it is, in fact, open for you to submit since I saw the online application was open. You can not go on campus to walk your application in. I have linked the website below

Thanks! I didn't realize we could apply before 8/1! I'm seeing conflicting information on the website. That link didn't work, but I am going to email someone as well. Good luck to you. Thanks again.

OK- I have another question. Do I have to wait until an acceptance to the University before applying to the ABSN program?

Sorry for the late response but no you don’t have to wait to be accepted by the University. It will tell you when you apply to the university that the program for which you applied has to accepted it. You apply as a second degree student and select your major as the ABSN. Sorry the link didn’t work this one should https://www.wssu.edu/admissions/programs/nursing.html

I applied last year too and the directions were also unclear but that link will show you all you need to know under the ABSN option and when you select the ABSN option application it shows you all the steps to complete and what to submit! I emailed someone two days before I applied asking that it was open too because I saw the online application was up and the lady told me yes to go ahead and apply because the University application opened July 1st for the upcoming Spring term. Best of luck hope this helps.

You can but I wouldn’t if you liked things processed in good timing. I applied the minute I was able to. I was able to deliver my official transcripts in person so I’m not sure what that process looks like for this years incoming cohort

So, I haven't gotten an email response from the school when I emailed a few questions last week. It says in the application that transcripts CAN be unofficial. I just received a transcript from a Summer class I just finished and it has a big "Unofficial" stamp in red across it. I'm surprised they are OK with unofficial.
