WSSU 2020 ABSN

Published

Just wanted to see if anyone was applying to WSSU ABSN program? Wanted to see where folks were applying/possibly planning to move from, and what is your general work background?

I'm from Winston Salem, with both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work. I've done some work as a social worker in the mental health, hospital case management setting and also on the insurance side of social work. Good luck to everyone on submitting applications!!!

Hey! I'm also applying to WSSU. I'm from Virginia. I did dual enrollment in HS and have a AS in Social Science from that and I am about to graduate with my BS in Kinesiology. I have about a year experience as a CNA and over 4 years experience volunteering in a healthcare setting, I've also completed an internship in a substance abuse recovery center. Good luck to you and everyone applying as well!

Awesome. Good Luck to you as well!

I applied as well to Winston! I wish we could've submitted a resume, I think it would've helped my application! We can't start the online portion of the application until September 1st right? Good luck to everyone!

Awesome. You're correct we can't apply to the university until 9/1 as a second degree student. The application is a very basic one outside of other programs that ask for resumes, recommendation letters, and even complete interviews for candidates who meet the program criteria. Good Luck to you as well.

I've got a BA in Theatre (and actually got paid to work in my degree field off and on for five years straight, haha), but I wanted to pursue a degree in nursing since I love human beings, I'm great at understanding other people's perspectives (thanks, acting!) and respecting people when they're at their most vulnerable (again, theatre is the best!). Rather than spend my days miserable working a day job as a server where money is inconsistent and there are no benefits available when I'm not working as an artist, I'd like to be a nurse and actually enjoy my day job while making as much of a difference as I do onstage. The fact that I've always been adept at science only helps matters! In fact, thanks to taking a Gen Chem I pre-req this summer, I decided to switch my original goal of midwifery to that of a pediatric oncology nurse that cares for children undergoing chemo/radiation therapy. (Most of my acting work was for touring children's theatres, so it fits me and my background well.)

I worked at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for nine months as an NA I, and for about six months in a nursing home before that, so I've gotten to see a pretty truthful depiction of what it means to truly be a nurse these days, and I believe I can do it. (*jazz hands*) Good luck, everyone! And if we get in and you need a roommate in December, hit me up! (*shuffle taps offstage*)

Awesome! I work at Baptist now at nights do you still work there?

Neat! I don’t work there anymore (had to leave to take Gen Chem I this summer), but I really enjoyed working there, and I miss it so much!

Ahhh gotcha! Good luck to you!

Hi all, I applied to the program. I have MS in Chemistry, BS in Psychology, and BS in Medical Technology. I currently work as a Chemist. I'm ready for a career change. Still debating between medical school and nursing school. I was accepted to Queens ABSN this past May but I didn't attend. I'm reapplying to Queens as well. I live in Charlotte. Good luck!

Hey everyone!

I applied to the program. I currently have a BS in investigative forensics and a minor in biology. I work as a medical assistant at a dermatology clinic in Richmond, VA where I have fallen in love with nursing. I'm excited to come back home to NC and start my next career path as an RN. I plan to apply to a few RN and Accelerated programs in the surrounding areas and Charlotte. Best of luck to everyone!!

Specializes in ED/MICU.

Hey everyone! I applied to the Spring 2020 cohort. Working in retail and ready for a more fulfilling career. Anyone put a tracking on the packet sent off? I just want to make sure they received everything in time ?.
