WSSU ABSN 2014

U.S.A. North Carolina

Anyone applying for the ABSN program at Winston-Salem State University this year? Just wondering if there were others out there who would be in the same boat.

Has anyone heard of funding this year?

Does anyone know how they rank applicants?

Thanks and Good Luck to all!

Hali- I'm sorry you are already frustrated. I was watching the mail anxiously too. Did you check other folders in your email? I DID receive an email with all information last week. I wonder if it could have gotten sent to your spam or something automatically. Hope you figure something out!

I've checked all folders, even my spam. Even If I didn't get in, I would still like to know. They are about 2 weeks later than they have been in previous years. I've got so many decisions to make and really need to know ASAP. It's just extremely frustrating, especially when you continue to get the run around.

However, congratulations to everyone who got in. I know you are probably excited to start something new! I just wish I could get some answers.. I know if I didn't get in it's probably because of the pre-req I'm still taking..however, I have a BA from UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated with a GPA of 3.5..but I guess that doesn't even make a difference from what I've heard.. just wish I could get some sort of notification!!

Yes, I too would want to know even if I didn't get in. Maybe we will receive something in the mail today. It's possible your name was somehow left off the list. Hope you find out something.

Hi everyone! Got my acceptance letter a few days ago and I'm very excited but I must admit, a bit stressed out about funding and keeping current with paperwork! I am moving to WS from out of state so there are some obstacles to deal with there. I have a few questions for current students or for those who may have more of a grasp on things than I do!

Can someone summarize the funding process? I understand there are opportunities for scholarship and funding from Wake Forest but otherwise, do students receive federal aid?

Does anyone know where Wake Forest or WSSU has roommate or sublet information?

What is the average cost of textbooks and supplies? Anything specific you can mention regarding uniform or any further advice on how to prepare?

I am ready for anything (well, almost anything) as far as the class/clinical schedule goes but I would appreciate input regarding the coursework, boards prep and your experience in general.

Thanks everyone and congratulations! I'm so looking forward to meeting you!

OP- I have no idea about funding timelines. I just emailed the contact person on our acceptance letter today to ask if they had an idea when we might hear back from WFBMC. As for the school health insurance, it was $704 per semester, but that was one year ago and I'm sure the prices have gone up.

Do any of you know if we need to fill out a FASFA for (2013-2014) this year? I'm planning to go to WSSU early next week and get some answers about a few things. Can anyone else think of anything to ask? I know from experience that going in person is much better than trying to get answers online or over the phone.

3k0rb- I know we need FAFSA completed for the Robert Wood Johnson Scholarship app.

I would definitely ask the amount for the ATI fee due in February.

Good luck and I appreciate you keeping us posted!

Hali- If you haven't heard anything, email or call -------- We had one classmate who received a rejection letter when she was actually accepted because they messed up her name. Good luck to you all! If it's like last year, the previous group came to talk to us at orientation so we will probably be there to give you the low down!

Definitely fill out your FAFSA for this year if you want financial aid and you will need it! Baptist only funded 16 of our 43 students and we didn't find out funding until December 13th with Robert W. Johnson paperwork due on the 14th. I received RWJ Scholarship and it has saved my life! Our classmates that were out of state never received calls from Baptist so if you're coming from out of state, fill out Robert W. Johnson paperwork for sure!

Thanks for the info ddwillard. Do you know if most of the students in the program receive some type of financial aid? 13 months without a job is a long time. Congrats on being almost done!

Oh and I emailed our contact person about WFBMC funding.. they said the hospital would contact us directly and he had no clue as to when that would be.

Yes, there were only a few who did not take financial aid. Either their parents supported them or they have spouses with good jobs. We are so ready to be done! Your class has tough shoes to fill! The other cohorts had people fail out here and there but we only lost 2, one who dropped out early because of finances and one who passed away. Best of luck to you! Save up now and tell your friends goodbye in January!
