WSSU ABSN 2014

U.S.A. North Carolina

Anyone applying for the ABSN program at Winston-Salem State University this year? Just wondering if there were others out there who would be in the same boat.

Has anyone heard of funding this year?

Does anyone know how they rank applicants?

Thanks and Good Luck to all!

Ah, so exciting! Thanks for letting us know :) Good luck!

Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear that results are in the mail because IF we get accepted we have to make a doctor's appointment to get vaccination form filled out for the WSSU application (this stuff takes time)! Good luck to everyone

WSSU just sent out emails with a bunch of information if you were accepted!

I got the email!!! SO excited!

YAY, I just got my email as well!! Based on the academic course schedule, do classes start on Jan 14 with orientation the 6th & 7th? or have any of you heard of the exact start date for classes?

Morris12983- I would assume classes start on the 14th since it doesn't say anything anywhere else about starting earlier. I believe the 14th is the actual first day for the college as a whole as well. I'm definitely going to have to design and print out a new schedule, the one they emailed us is a little cramped and hard to read. Congrats everyone!

I am currently in the program now. You need to prepare for emotionally and financially draining 14 to 16 months.you will not get financial aid in the last spring semester. You will be fighting with financial aid most of the time when being a student at WSSU. Things change at the drop of a dime. And you will have stress from classes and from administration. Good luck and be ready.

Thanks for the warning ErinJane1. I went to WSSU for undergrad.. I know their game quite well. :sneaky:

When will your last day of classes be? On our schedule it says 2/20, so that equals out to around 13 months, although I know it will probably change. Also, what type of financial aid did you receive? It was my understanding that as a second degree student you can only get loans. Sorry to hear you've had a hard time with administration, but you're almost done, keep it up!

I went to WSSU for undergrad too. This is completely different set of problems! I am funded by Baptist so they paid all books and fees. But I got undergrad loans as well. And that was where trouble happened. They gave me a scholarship and then took it back. Then they keep changing my financial aid. And now they are not allowing us to get Spring financial aid for 2014, which means we do not get college health insurance or anything either. It is just a big mess!

We are done February 14th with classes. But we have a "required" review course for the NCLEX, to the cost of $350 that we have to return for and will finish at the end of February. So we are counting down and so ready to get it done!

Oh no! Did you get the Robert Wood Johnson scholarship? I read the paperwork with that and it said that you can't get it if you also get funding from Baptist. That's crazy though seems like they would have notified you before it got messy.

As far as the spring term, do you have to provide your own health insurance since you won't be getting it through the school? They say you have to have insurance to take more than 3(?)credit hours. Hrmm...

Congratulations to everyone accepted! I have been accepted as well and am excited about getting the process started. Does anyone know the timeline of hearing from WFBMC, interviewing, and getting a response? It seems like a lot to get done quickly! I mean I hope we definitely have funding questions answered by December. Also- with health insurance- how much is the insurance provided through the University?

I'm already unimpressed with WSSU. They told me they sent out letters last Tuesday and I still have not received anything and I even live in Winston-Salem. I was told that they would send me an e-mail last Thursday to let me know whether I got in the program or not, but that never happened either. Sounds like they are just telling people things that aren't true. ErinJane1 I'm not even in the program and I can already see what a pain they are to deal with. They are extremely disorganized. Just a heads up for anyone that's going into the program in January. I'm starting to have second thoughts about the entire program..
