Would you travel overseas for a medical procedure?!

There are many americans as well as citizens from another country travelling overseas to get a medical procedures done (anything from hip replacements to dental work or cosmetic procedures, source International Living magazine).Cost savings can range from 15% to 75%.Not to mention you can also see another country, have a vacation. Also it can help people who dont have a good insurance.Well I would do it without hesitation.Would you?

Sure would, assuming all the ducks were in a row (hospital had good outcome percentages, was clean, staff was friendly, etc) and it wasn't somewhere crazy like a third world country where they use dinner knives to cut you open and sewing needles to put you back together. :lol2:

After all, why not? It's not like the United States has the best medical system evar.

Nope,I was so suprised that we dont even have the best airports. We didnt make to the first ten best airports in the world!!! Not to mention best hotels..

My aunt damn near died of some quackery cancer treatment in Mexico. As it was, it shortened her life, emptied her bank account, and caused her a lot of suffering in the end.

Just throwing that out there.

My grandma had an awsome experience but as everywhere in the world things can go wrong.I'm sorry about your aunt though.I remember hearing not so long ago actually about a huge affair where one of the hospital in the US (cant remember the state) reused their needles and a lot of patients contracted Hepatitis C.I mean who would have though that this would happen in the US right? But it did. Also I'm sure if the health care was so bad in other countries people wouldnt travel there to get their procedures done, especially famous people who have tons of money.Just sayin...:twocents:

I'd go with the ones with Joint Commission Accreditation plus, the hospital that speaks my language!

How horrible it is to be in a place where you have to guess what the hospital staff is talking about!

I guess Turkey would be an excellent choice for you!!!;)Also I'm suire most Indian doctors speak English fluently!:)

I was raised here in US and I always go to Europe for medical procedures and even for annual checkup; and not because the doctors are better but because it is much cheaper and no insurance is required. They have national health care :)

What country in Europe?

If I needed surgery, I would HAVE to go overseas. I don't have health insurance, and couldn't afford surgery here in the USA.

Everyone I have ever met that has gone out of the Country for any medical procedure has come back way so sick, and has had to have to procedure redone or corrected, ended up on countless antibiotics, spent numerous days in hospital. Nope. Not me. If I can't afford it in the US of A, then it ain't gonna be done!

You have to be more specific, how many people, what procedures have they done,etc..before you can have a valid point.

i also work in the miami/ft lauderdale area as an ICU RN. I have seen lots of septic folks following a cosmetic vacay... they try to save money and it winds up costing soooo much more. You dont have time to be choosy about where you are going for medical care when you are gonna die! Ivanna

I once saw on TV that there's a lot of foreigners going to the Philippines for kidney transplants.

Apparently they save like a couple of thousand dollars when they get it done there compared to the US.

Its actually my dream to go to Turkey one day but hopefully as a real tourist. Also I've met a lot of Indian physicians that are excellent.

I think the best would be not to get sick, like a lot of prevention and exercise. lol

But oftentimes I'm just too tired I forget to exercise and do eat a lot of junk.

No, I wouldn't.

My dad had some dental work in another country =it saved him thousands. If something goes wrong, he can't go back to that country-can't guarantee the work he had done is good or not or if they used proper technique-makes me nervous, actually.

Yes, I will provided that everything is in order... If I can handle the expenses, then there is no problem at all.
