Would you choose nursing again or another health profession?

Nurses Career Support

Would you choose nursing again or another health profession such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, pharmacy, radiology tech, etc.?

Specializes in geriatrics.

No I would choose either RD or OT.

More money, better hours, less stress. I regret not accepting the nutrition program, which I was offered three days before my nursing admissions letter arrived.

I would probably have done studio art. But that said I'm not unhappy with nursing. I might have done midwifery so that I could do L&D (my nursing specialty) the way I would like.

Specializes in ER, Pediatric Transplant, PICU.

Some days, I think my dream job would be Starbucks. Because (1), I love coffee. (2) those green aprons are great. (3) even on the busiest, crappiest day, its probably less stress than coding somebody. (4) If I get somebody's coffee wrong, whatever... at least its not a medication.

Okay, real world, nursing is pretty good to me. But I do have those days where I drink my caramel macchiato and wish....

Vet tech?

Dental hygienist?

Specializes in Palliative.

I originally wanted to go into PT but at the time it was hard to get into. Now I'd probably do SLP. If I were REALLY doing it all over again (ie 17 fresh out of school), I'd become a radiologist.

Specializes in PCCN.

Probably dont want vet tech. You are the one who puts the animals to sleep :(

Also have to still deal with "pet parents"

And bites.

My friend's sister is dental hygienist or assistant or something. She likes it, and makes more than we nurses do.I imagine they get some nasty mouths sometimes. blech

Going back to the original question- Actually, I was enrolled in the rad tech program. my friend talked me into nursing. Ughh I shouldn't have listened.

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

Nursing is my second career and I love being an NP...however, if I could do it again I would have worked harder in my undergrad years (I had waaaay too much fun!) and gone to med school. But really, I'd like to raise goats and make cheese. It probably wouldn't smell much worse than some of the things I do now.....

Mouths? We get the whole enchilada!

Specializes in Hospice and palliative care.

If I had known about it when I was younger, I would have gone the CSI route. I may still do that ;-)

Nope. Love being a nurse.

DVM or DDM.

Edit to add: but I really, really like what I do now as an R.N. Great team, great company.
