Worthless medical insurance

:angryfire At my last job I had a cancerous mole removed from my back. My claim was denied because they felt it wasn't necessary???? Anyway, after hours of combat and unending paperwork I finally got a little money to help pay for the surgical removal of it. I am wondering if anyone knows of good hospitals or good nursing homes etc. that actually provide good medical coverage for their employees. Thanks

:crying2: Wahhh... nobody answered my thread. Hmm is it because I am an obnoxious old woman or is it because there are no good places that offer good medical insurance? Yeah it took over a year before I got a penny from my insurance company. Thank God I had money in the bank. I never thought that a person could be diagnosed with malignant melanoma and then have to fight so hard to get a cancerous mole removed. How about you? Please tell me about your worthless insurance nightmare stories too. Thanks

I have not seen good medical insurance through an employer yet!!!

Thanks TeenyBabyRN. You are so right!!! In the 1970's and 1980's I seemed to have good medical insurance at most of my nursing jobs. Nowadays, it seems it is impossible to find any good medical insurance at any nursing job. :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

I KNOW what ya mean..I'm not sick often *knocks on wood* but the times I have been it has been HELL trying to get insurance to PAY their part..very frustrating to say the least..I think they make those forms confusing on purpose..and just when you figure out how to fill everything out properly, they add a new form! Everyone says you gotta have insurance, most times I'd rather pay the friggin bill myself and be done with it...grrrrrrrr @ insurance companies :(

I always worked agency and paid for my own insurance so that I could pick what I wanted. They just paid me the money that they would have put towards the policy and this way it moved with me and belonged to me.

The last company that I have used was American Community PPOM and never had any problems with them not paying for something. They are based in Michigan, but actually started with them when I was living in Arizona .

Their policies are only available in certain states.

:) Thanks Mindy and Suzanne. At my next nursing job I'm not going to get any medical insurance. The worst part of my ordeal was not the cancer surgery. What drove me totally crazy and stressed out was fighting the insurance company.!!! What's the sense of paying for insurance when you have to fight so hard to actually use it? :angryfire :angryfire

What part of the country are you looking for?

I had a great INS co while in denver. Here, it is another story. I dislocated my knee 1 yr ago and had to go to the OR for open reduction. I had sheared off part of my patella and my ins co just sent me a letter stating they finally sent payment to the doc and hosp. A whole yr!!!

My sister works in admission & billing for a small hospital and from what I've heard from her & many others, insurance in general is going wayyyy downhillll. There aren't a whole lot of decent insurance companies anymore because medical costs are so high. Premiums & co-pays are increasing all over while benefits are decreasing.

:) Thanks for your messages. Wow! $1,000 a month for a family plan. Glad to hear it is good insurance. I've tried to get private insurance but they won't insure me because of my past medical problems. I am hoping to relocate to a "cold weather state" in the future after Mom goes to heaven.

Yes isn't it remarkable that it takes a whole year before they start paying any bills. Yes medical insurance sure is going way down hill.

Right now where im working we have good insurance. We actually have 5 different choices of what you can have. PM me and i'll give you a link to the benefits page. Currently it costs me nothing for heath and only minimal for vision and dental.

There is a catch however and this isnt the first place I have seen nor the last, one is required to get the insurance even if its just the catastrophic coverage or prove they have coverage though a spouse.
