Worried about GPA

Published

Hey everyone! I'm disappointed in myself as I didn't do as well as intended in my summer courses. I put too much pressure on myself and between working at night amd being a single mom, my performance was poor. My GPA has slipped to a 2.9. Is there still time for me to catch up? I foolishly took an accelerated bio and intermediate math class. I know I can do way better than this. I have a lot going on in life and bit off way more than I could chew. I will definitely study harder and work harder next semester. I'm going to be taking afternoon and early evening classes in September, so I'll be able to get more rest. A lot of the times, I was coming to class right after work. Night shift is the only shift I am able to work. Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm going into my 4th semester, still trying to finish up prereqs (I still have the sciences to go plus sociology and psychology growth nd development). I know I can do it, I want this degree more than anything; I refuse to give up my dream.

You definitely still have time to pull your GPA up. It is NOT too late. I suggest taking it slow though. Theres nothing wrong with only taking 1 or 2 classes at a time. Give yourself plenty of time to study so that you can get the best grades possible. Good luck!

100% agree! I completed my nursing pre-reqs while working full time as well, although without the added stress of parenting. During my last semester, I went directly from 10-12 hour workdays to 2 hour lectures followed immediately by 2 hour labs. On top of that, I took a weekend CNA course and lost virtually all of my free time. Did I pull it off? Sure, but I didn't do as well as I would have liked and my mental health definitely suffered.

There's still plenty of time to improve, just do everything you can to position yourself to be successful in the rest of those pre-reqs. If that means taking fewer classes at a time, that's totally ok!

You should be very thankful that your GPA didn't slip lower than a 2.9. Is that your prerequisite GPA or your overall GPA? All schools look into both GPA to get accepted. Either way, you got time to catch up. Just make sure you try your best from now on. I agree with the other people's reponse, it is best to take it slow on the prerequsites if you already have a lot going on outside of school. These prerequsites is what gets you accepted, so you want to do well the first time so the process of getting accepted will be easier. Good luck.
