First post!
I am 2nd year LVN and have been working successfully as a CNA since day one. They recommended to us in first year that, if required to work, you take no more than 16 hours per week, which equates to 2 days. I pick up extra shifts during semester breaks and it works out well enough to meet my bills.
So far... so good. Granted I have little to no free time so I am not certain how that would work out with 2 kids but I suppose if you have good support within your family structure you could handle it well enough. I am fortunate to have a boss who has been there, done that, and so she is very open to working with my schedule and requested days off due to final exams etc.
I have classes and clinical m-thurs and I work 3-11 shifts on Fri and Sat.. leaving me Sunday to catch up with other aspects of my life, studies, etc.
No problems yet... except of course for my pesky back. CNA can be extremely difficult work (physically speaking) and is starting to take it's toll on my body. Graduation can't get here soon enough.....
Best,
I have three young kids, and dh works on the road. I'm in school and work PRN, I get about 2-3 weekends a month (if I want that many, I am only required to work one weekend) and a couple weekdays. I have class M, W and F. I'm not making much money, and if dh ends up working on the weekend and I'm scheduled to work, I end up working for free after paying daycare. : ( But I'm after the experience, and I'm getting that, so I'm happy with the situation.
I graduate in 7 weeks and i worked full time all the way from the start of my program which was jan til june and it was hard my grades are good but working full time you don't feel like you get the studying you should have or could have if you didn't work full time and plus i have a son and a husband but it is duable good luck
Well I'm not a CNA but I go to school M-F 8am to 3pm and I work friday night from 4-11, Saturday 1130-9ish (all day), and sunday 930am-4pm...and I am going on my 3rd quater and have done pretty well so far...but also A LOT of people in my class don't work AT ALL which I don't understand because I got bills to pay and gotta do it some how...don't know how they can't work, but to answer your question it is do-able if you got somebody to help take care of your kids (i don't have any kids yet, gunna wait till school is over)
Hi! I am wondering if anyone works as a cna while in lpn school? Is it doable, even with 2 kids? Thanks guys!
I would imagine it is like any other job you may be working w/ 2kids.
it s agreat way to have med experience before applying for a LVN job once you get liscenced. I have been considering it, although I feel I can use my clinical experience as some type of med background, its not the same though...
