Working for agency

Hi everyone,

What is the pros. and cons. of working for agency?.

Why it's the agency paid more?. Thank.

I worked for an agency for 3 yrs., going to the correctional institutions. I was able to learn a variety of skills. I think the con of agency, is around xmas time, if the staff where you pick up shifts wants xtra money, they can just cancel you. Facilities would rather use their own staff if possible. Alot cheaper on them in the long run. Other than that one downfall, I really enjoyed the experiences. :p

cons............no benefits and getting cancelled too much.

pros.............working when you want (as long as you don't get cancelled):uhoh3:, more pay per hour, and not having to deal with the hospital politics.

Hi I would like to respond to working for an agency. My present job is working for an agency. Agencies are different now, for when I started working for them back in 87, they were more personable. I've worked alot for them, benefits have changed, etc. Out of my years, I've never have had to pay for cpr, but since moving here to NC I've had to pay dearly. Let take for an example the insurance policy that we presently have is 600 amonth for myself and 2 kids, and I've never have had to pay that either. But it all boils down to if the company that you're working for is just starting out or if they been in business for awhile. So investigate the company, and how many co's they may have, and how long their employees stay with them. Word of mouth from meeting other nurses is great, and most time very reliable. By this I mean say you're working @ a facility for an agency, usually there are other nurses their from agencies, and talk with them, and you'll find out alot. Looking forward to hearing from you all!!
