Age when you had your first child?
I was 16 when I had my first child. She was a beautiful baby girl. It was definitely to young!!!! But, on the flip side, she is the reason that I am what I am today. I had to strive to obtain my education, to provide the life I wanted for her. She is now 19 and I am very proud of her. My hopes for her is that she gets her education before children. It was very hard and I had alot of long, sleepless nights.

My School is Gone!
I live in Indiana, and I have heard of several universities around here offering to provide the remainder of education to those affected by the hurricane free of charge, to help those students get their life back on track! Maybe you could check into different universities close to where you are at!!!! Good luck and I wish you and yours well! :wink2:

When to stand up for your rights?
:angryfire I am in a tough situation. I am a unit manager at a LTC facility. We had a new DON come in about 8 months ago. To make a long story short, the other day, she was talking to the other unit manager (nothing to concern my unit) and the Administator called out and wanted me to come into her office to talk to her about something, so I got up to go into her office. When I did, the DON pointed her finger to the chair and told me to sit. I felt like I was being talked to just like a dog!!!!!! It was not just the words, it was more the tone and the "I am telling you to do it, and you will obey" tone. I am contemplating going to the administrator over this situation. She is currently treating the other unit manager like crap also. She just hangs her head when she does this. I cannot go on this way. My evaluations are nothing but wonderful. When I asked if I was doing something wrong, she just stated" No, I am the DON because I am lazy, and know how to delegate well!" I cannot continue to work under this type of stress!! Please, any suggestions?????

I did not study in depth enough for the test. I passed it, but don't just scan the material. I recall alot of names and dates in the exam. Good Luck! You can do it!!! Now I am psycology! It reminds me of sociology alot. :wink2:

Yeah I passed the exam. It was alot more in depth than I originally thought it would be. I remembered a couple of the questions, and I went back to try to find it in the guide and could not find it anywhere. Just go pretty in depth. Good luck to you on your test!! let me know how you did!?!

LTC burnout
I understand exactally what you are saying. I work in a facility that the staffing coordinator is not a nurse or CNA, so it does not affect her in any way when she borrows from Peter to pay Paul. Then when the nurse has double the workload cause somebody called in, its like "Oh your hall can do it, you guys are so good" Hell, who are they kidding!!!!! I am currently a unit manager, and I get right out there along with my nurses and pass pills and whatever is needed, then they all down in the office areas look at me like I am crazy! I cannot or will not sit back and let my staff drown. But on the other hand I respect my coworkers and they respect me. Keep your head up and maybe things will turn around. Sounds like you really care or you would not have been there all them years!! Good luck!! :balloons:

Working for agency
I worked for an agency for 3 yrs., going to the correctional institutions. I was able to learn a variety of skills. I think the con of agency, is around xmas time, if the staff where you pick up shifts wants xtra money, they can just cancel you. Facilities would rather use their own staff if possible. Alot cheaper on them in the long run. Other than that one downfall, I really enjoyed the experiences.
