Hi - well, I've never worked at Glendale, but I do work for an Adventist hospital (have for the last 11+ years) and I LOVE it! It's the nicest place I've ever worked. The staff and the doctors are all wonderful to work with - they are all like family to me.
thank you ORSmurf for sharing your experience. aprreciate it!

i have worked there. what dept. are you interested in? i would love to live in that area, the hospital is surrounded by beautiful views and hills. had good and bad days, mostly bad, think i hit the arm pit dept. i wonder how much of it was the dept. vs. the changes we are seeing every where? i do like thier mission statement, great food but too bad they put meat in the cafeteria, its 7th day adventist and they seem quite dedicated. hope it works out! meow
Furofire i am considering working in the Med/Surg. department. I am choosing between glendale adventist medical and whittier hospital. hope you can share some of your experience and what department you worked in. thank you
Dear Iema, Are you from the Phippines? I used to live in Whittier and at the time I was, in that Whiittier Hospital area were very white people but things may have changed. I have worked with many Philippino nurses and love them, they are dedicated, smart and work very hard. At Glendale the population is almost all Armeanian but the staff has many Philippino nurses. I worked in the critical care center which has tele, CCU, SICU etc. but my home dept. was the tele unit. The patients were very ill, a typical day was one having an MI, one hypo and one hypertensive and one wanting to go home ASAP. I felt the support was very poor, I had to call the doctors myself, take off the orders, everything is computerized. There was a charge nurse and head nurse and unit secretary all present but I am not sure just what they were doing, they were buried in paperwork. The turn over was huge and lots of travelors mainly at night. Some day people went to nights because of the stress. I have never been to the med/surg so I have no idea what to tell you there. Glendale seemed to pay well. BUT all hospitals are going through changes and its hard to say now which one is better. Why don't you go to the both hospitals during a busy time and be a lost visitor, walk around and try and sense what is going on, maybe that will help you decide where it will be best. Hope this helps.
yup i am. Both hospitals were good so its really up to me to balance the pros and cons of each hospital. Thanks for the reply

I am also from the philippines and an adventist too... i am interested in working in any hospital but i wanted to work in an institution that i fit in specially that i am not from that place....are you an adventist? what are the requirement? i wanted to apply too...God bless.
Hi dep. Glendale adventist medical center is a big hospital and one of the best hospital here in CA. If you're here in LA i suggest that you check out the hospital. I met with their HR director and nurse manager and i was accepted. I just filled their on line application which you can find in their web site. They will call you once they received you're application. After that they will schedule you for an interview. Good luck

i personally worked at GAMC for 2 years and would not recommend it to anyone. No their pay rate are lousy. They will make you sign a 2 year contract and is you choose to leave early will have to pay a penalty. Yes when they first go to hire you everyone is very nice. But then when you hit the floor on your own after orientation, the older nurses some of them are big bullies. Administration is a joke, all you will get when you complain is a nod and a smile but nothing will be done. There is no support from managment, you just have to do what you are told.
I hope this helps, i just do not want to see you end up in my predicament. i left because i was injured and reported it the first time and was ignored, until it was so bad i had to take workmen's comp. My advice is to work somewhere else. I heard the White Memorial in LA is better. There is no perfect hosptial out there, but you deserve at least better management and pay.
thanks for the advise... can you give me their web site? are you an adventist?
