Hello, I hear what you saying i was a charge RN in a M-F job and was pursuing BSN at that time. And exactly as you said on the thread it became more than an 8 hour job, staying extra hours, doing staffing and solving all the problems. i left after 1 1/2 years there and decided to not even continue pursuing further educationg anymore. I went back to the floor med-surg, and noticed that there are other Master's even Nurse Pratictioners, who on my floor as well.

Hi, Good luck on your job search. I am an RN and as soon as i am able to i will be making my exit from nursing. Besides the ADMIN and politics and favoritism that goes on. Also have to deal with new policies and procedures and implementation of new equipment or some type of computer program. I have tried many other types of nursing besides hospital which i am currently at, but finally realized i do not enjoy it any longer. So i am with and hope you find something you like.

i would like to add my 2 cents worth. Can you please empty the urinal or hat in the bathroom cos you know that is very urgent. My mom/dad is throwing up or complaining of n/v can they please get some ice chips. I understand a patient not being with it after surgery but not the family.

Hi I just started working there few months ago. I am not a new grad so do not know the rate. For the most part i found the nurses there helpful and a good working environment. i work night shift. i do know that they pay time and a half after 8hrs. The reason i applied there is when i worked as a registry nurse and did a few rotations i found in general the staff was pleasant and helpful and it is closer to home for me.I hope this helps.

HI, I agree with you. I had to do chart review once a week at a previous job and would also spot my own mistakes and it actually made me better at charting. But some people do get defensive.

Hello, There is nothing really that you can do from my opinion to prepare for the program. However if you are willing to, try doing a CNA program and work as a CNA before hand and that can take away some of the anxiety. Some students in the beginning are very afraid to touch patients. Also familiarity with a hospital environment will help, and then you can see if nursing is a right fit for you also. I will lots of luck.

Hello everyone, I can give you a few ideas since i do work per diem in a large bariatric clinic. We do both the lap band and gastric bypass. We do the consults, pre-op (where they have to come in, sign consent,finish up blood work), then the follow up appointments. I know the full time nurses deal with the phone calls from the patients. We also require if they smoke to quit (short term) before surgery, no pregnancy i think for the first 1or 2 years. It is mandatory for them to see the dietician and social worker as well as attend a class. There is also a support group for them. There is a whole lot more involvement if you are full time staff, the nurse has to make sure they are cleared for surgery and keep them on track with the follow up appointments,etc. For me it has been really educational and have seen patients improve, with lowering of blood cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes and a few other co-morbidities. It does also have it's bad side effects, such as too much weight loss, malnutrition, vitamin deficiency. so that is why they need monitoring basically for life. I hope this information helps.

Hi everyone, i have done registry here and there and have a list of hospitals that i will only go to. i work only nights med surg. One day i went to a very short staffed night shift had 5 of my own plus 4 more with an LVN. i should have left right away, instead i needed to money badly and stayed, it was so disorganized and confusing and nurses were rude speaking in their own language about me in front of me. From that day on never again.So i feel you frustration too.

HI, I am new to LVN teaching. I currenly do the lecture and 2 12hr clinicals, totals part time(get paid part time) but really is full time You have to set the rules and stick by them of else they will do whatever they want.You are like their mother hen to adult kids, have to deal with student politics and staff complaints and writing students up. i have a good group of students and yes you can see them grow and get better. It is a lot of work though. You have to be prepared if you teaching lecture to put in extra hours and not get paid (i.e at home), and clinical you may not get a lot of breaks even if the students do. I unfortunately will have to leave soon due to personal reasons, but if i were you go ahead and look to doing clinicals part time and see how you like it before going into full time.

HI, There is usually in each nursing home posted the tel # for local ombudsman to report abuse. I understand it is completely anoynymous and you have to fill out some paper work. i have to do the same cos one of my students saw something too.

Hello everyone, i was enrolled in CSUDH online program as the classroom options were too far away for me to attend. i had no problem enrolling in classes, the first class you have to take is easy. I found plusses and minuses. Plusses:- i did not have to physically attend a class. We had a blackboard for online chat and message board where the instructor would post our assignment due dates and she was available via emal or phone. Minuses:- This online version did not work for me. I felt sometimes it was unfair if you were in a group and if one person failed to participate in the assisgments then all of us would lose the points ( which were cumulative). No tests but a lot of paperwork and a term paper which you can submit online. One had to be discipline to study on your own without the habit of attending a classroom. Also a friend of mine who completed this program attending the every other weekend class sessions and said that it was better. She did however have to find her own preceptor and site for her clinical rotations. If i had the time and money i would re-enroll in the program. So i do recommended.

Hi, I teach LVN program and we too have EKG. For me i just talked them through and we do not have a real EKG in skills lab. So my idea is when i get onto the clinical site and there is a pt who is getting an EKG then they can observe one being done.

Nsgshortage you should like you used to work at TENET. i did not go to work there despite the good pay they offered. Unfortunately i do have to do clinical rotations with my students at a TENET facility. Maybe that won;t be so bad.

I graduated Moorpark College many years ago, and was on the waiting list for 1 1/2 years. I do not know now if they have done away with waiting lists.
