You go girl!!!
We had an ER doc the other day cuss out one of the RN's down there. I have told my manager that if that jerk ever cusses me out or makes crude remarks to me, I will file formal charges immediately. We do not have to tolerate this abuse. I don't know of any other profession that puts up with it, so why should nursing.....

originally posted by ftell001i work occasionally at an imaging center...conscious sedation..renal scans...contrast reactions....that sort of thing. its a great job...usually!
today i go in..and my major tasks is screening people for the mri.
welllllllll!! today the nuclear med tech comes to me and says he has a renal with vasotec panel. i tell him i'll be there when he is ready..and give the vasotec.
he calls me..i go in..and find the pt has a b/p of 130/60. i ask.."why are we doing a vasotec panel"? he says the patient had bouts of hypertension..unexplained.
i sit with the patient..and question him..while cuff is doing b/p's. his pressure starts to rise ..dystolic reaches 111. i tell the tech to leave the room with me. we sneak back in..b/p's back to 130/60. apparently this young man admitted himself to a drug rehab..got out....then fell off the wagon and was readmitted. while in for the second time...the staff kept getting high b/p's so a cardiologist was consulted. the pt kept telling them he was just upset..nothing wrong with him. he says he has a bad temper...gets angry easily..etc.
well..i kept watching his b/p's...and then..told the tech.."no vasotec"..but..i'm on my way to the radiologist to tell him this pts' history and readings.
now ..here is where the s*** hits the fan! the dr. of radiology..is an a*****..and about 6 months ago..which was the last time i have seen him..he was totally outrageously rude to me when i had to go to his office with information.
today..same thing. he says..in his rude way.."what do you want"???
i told him..i have to discuss something with him..
i tell him the story on this pt....and he says..."well...what do you want me to do"?
i say.."do you want to d/c the vasotec". he says.."that is not my call"...i didn't order it"!
i say.."and if this guy crashes..??????"
he says..."get plenty of saline..and orange juice"...
now...i"m totally and beyond control...angry.
i inform the assistant manager of the facility..then..tell the nm tech..that i"m calling the doc that ordered this test.
when i explained to the doc..he says "well..of course you can hold it"..don't do the vasotec panel!
now..back to nuclear med room...to tell the tech..we are not doing the panel..just the renal scan.
then..a***** doc walks in..(i'm sure he got worried)...and asks where the vasotec pt is. i told him..no vasotec is being done...
he asks "why"? i tell him...and all this time...i'm walking to the door.speaking over my shoulder to him..which really pissed him off!
he callls me back..and says "i want to talk to you!!" well...i knew what he intended......and i said.."sure..i want to talk to you too"!
i led him to the back hall..pulled the door shut..and went off!
i told him.."i do not come into your office for a social call!!!!" i come in because i am doing my job. you will never talk to me that way again! i have had enought of your disrespect and abuse!"
now..he starts to say something..i look at him and say "i refuse to listen to anything you have to say"..and walk away!
nope..i refuse to let this jerk think he is going to chew on me~!
(will finish this ...in a bit......have to go right now..but..i will be back!)
bravo!!! bravo!!!

Not to try and defend the radiologist, but he probably did what he thought best when he told you "he didn't order" the Vasotec. This doesn't excuse his behaviour--he should have called the referring physician himself to clarify the order and/or suggest a different study, and he shouldn't have yelled at you. I also don't know what he meant by asking you to get orange juice and saline ready--that's just stupidness.
HOWEVER, I work in a multi-modality (no NM, though) outpatient clinic with three radiologists on-site (out of a total of 13 spread over four clinics). I have to say, some of the orders sent over by some (non-radiologist) physicians are just ridiculous. Not infrequently, when the rad calls the referring to suggest another study, he or she is treated either a) with indifference or b) with open hostility. Obviously, patient care suffers in instances like this. I cannot tell you how many times I have called a referring physician at the behest of one of our rads and been told "That's how Doctor ordered it. I don't have any other history", which may or may not be true. We frequently receive orders that are illegible, make no sense, request exams that don't exist, or have all of the above problems (my all time favourite was "CT Chest ONLY. Include liver and kidneys.").
So it may have been that the rad you dealt with was just fed up with the referring, and decided that if the referring wanted a Vasotec study, he could darn well have a Vasotec study. As I said, this doesn't excuse his behaviour, but it does provide some context.

Well He DIDNT order the vasotec..but would it have hurt AT ALL for the Stu**d Azz to have said ok ,good call hold it, and go ahead and page the cardiologist....(hint: always remember when dealing with those who suffer from "cranial-rectum" desease. they aren't always adept at removing their own HEAD from their A**)..haha:rotfl:
