Wolford College CRNA February 2016 entry

Anyone else apply for February 2016 start date?

Coming into the program I did not know what to expect, especially with all the negativity online. I can truly say that I am satisfied with the way things are going so far. It's grad school/adult learning, you get the most out of it by applying your time and lots of self learning. Talked to friends that are in three different programs currently at FIU, Barry, and FGCU and they all stated the very same thing. Talked to many students in different semesters at the school currently, and 99% of them all had great things to say. As for the professors, they are all very knowledgeable and know there subject areas very well.

What semester are you in?

I don't know what problem Turner_SRNA has but wow! I'm a student at Wolford and thought I'd create an account and share my thoughts cause I'm tired of people trying to paint a bad picture. It's been a great school and I've been happy with everything so far. There are some people who don't realize it's graduate school and will need to put in substantial work on their part to learn concepts and fully understand them. They think that they can go to class for a few hours and the professor should teach them everything they need to know about the subject. Yes, there are Podiatrists teaching some classes but what are they teaching? Go look at any health specialty with regards to your basic science, chemistry and whatnot. They all have to cover the same stuff before your get into the nitty gritty things for your specific area. Anything anesthesia related that I have been taught, is taught by either a pharmacist for pharmacology related stuff and a Doctoral prepared CRNA or MDA with regards to anesthesia.

Overall I have been happy with my experience at Wolford. Don't let the people who are out to grind an ax from behind a keyboard scare you. Talk to multiple people because I can bet that very few if any will agree with some of the negative things that have been posted.

I will have to agree with RN_Dude, the reason that they have new teachers is the school is working towards getting their regional accreditation. They have moved out all the teachers who do not have a doctorate of some sort. For me the teachers have been amazing, as RN_dude said all actual anesthesia courses are taught by CRNAs, anesthesiologists, or pharmacists. Conversations are not recorded, there are cameras in the classroom for testing purposes and to record the lectures for students to go back and listen to them. The education I have received at wolford has been above and beyond my expectations. You are expected to learn the info on your own. This is grad school, they are not going to spoon feed you the info. Welcome to grad school. I would not listen to a student who has been in the program for less than one semester.

I am also a current Wolford student and I have had a great experience here so far. I think that for the most part the teachers do a good job and they want you to succeed. When I first applied to Wolford I was a little hesitant because of some of the negative things I've read online. Now that I am at Wolford I think that most of the negativity comes from former students who couldn't make it in grad school. This is a challenging program and I study a lot, but I am learning a ton. So far everyone I know who has graduated from Wolford has a job before they graduate. Wolford prepares you to be a successful CRNA. Don't listen to the negative people on here. Is Wolford a perfect program? No. Would I apply here again if I could go back? Absolutely.

The crazy thing is I am in the program as well and have had a really great experience here. The professors are great, they all have their doctorate degrees, and are well prepared to teach. The podiatrist teaching in first semester is teaching anatomy and physiology and chemistry and physics, which are well within his education level to teach. Remember podiatrist have to go to doctorate level programs as well. So i really don't get the argument about them teaching class. Also any anesthesia courses are taught by CRNA's or Anesthesiologists. I have learned a ton here at school and feel that the professors are great. For every one angry student there are 30 students that enjoy the program and feel that is a great place for learning. I interviewed at other schools, and chose to go to Wolford and I do not regret that choice. Remember it is a graduate school and you are responsible for your own learning, the teachers are there just to present the information. Also go look at University of North Carolina: Charlotte SIM LAB and then tell me that ours is old and outdated. They are literally in a closet with an old anesthesia machine. Ours is way better. Anybody out there looking to go to Wolford should come check it out for yourself, get an interview and make your own decision, and don't listen to one disgruntled student out of many others that love the program!!!

Without knowing any details about this school, I would caution readers to make note that all of the users that are pro-Wolford are all new users with very similar names.

I was thinking the same, ValarMorghulis. It has been suggested the staff at the school may pose as current students when writing reviews on this website, to make it better than it seems.

But maybe they are true students. Odd that all 3 joined at the same time, within the same hour, posting on the same topic.

We are all friends in the program. we study together and are currently studying for our cardiac pathophysiology class, and just wanted to set the record straight. Students who actually like the school

Speculation really hurts when you have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, my profile was created a few days ago, along with the profiles of some very recent posts today. Why you ask? Because along with my classmates, I saw some of the posts on here and was tired of one upset student slamming the school and creating a bad image. How do you go about dispelling these rumors? You create a profile and post your actual experience and invite your classmates to do the same. Saying that the administration had something to do with it is so far from the truth but you can continue in your ignorance and believe what you like.

My profile was actually not created recently, I joined in April of 14, long before I would have been a student at Wolford. I noticed that before starting school that Wolford gets a really bad rap online, so I did my research and talked with students who had actually graduated from the program to get a good idea what it was all about. Obviously I got some good recommendations or I would have not applied here.

This thread is turning out weird.
