3 wks til NCLEX, any advice for me please?

Published

hi , i'm taking my NCLEX on April 11 and i was wondering if anyone would be so kind to give me any advice and cheer me up! thank u!!

Are you comfortable with NCLEX style questions? Hopefully, your school used them throughout your education. If you are experienced with those questions, I recommend that you buy/download the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN 5e; it has 4435 questions. I also bought the book (1000+ pages) and only used it to brush up on the endocrine system. Do ~100-200 questions per day. Even if you think you know nothing about the subject in a question, try to answer it using any knowledge that might be related to it. After that, read the rationale and, if needed, brush-up/learn about the subject. Three weeks is a lot of time. I gave myself a month after I got my ATT and ended up studying 4 days prior to my test. Out of 38 students, only 2 from my class failed (but they were struggling throughout the program). The NCLEX questions in Saunders were very similar to the real questions.

we have the same date of exam good luck to both of us:nurse:

You should start doing of what I called endurance test do a Qbanks of 150 question daily. Till a day or 2 of your test day. Get Qbanks from a good source question like ncsbn or Kaplan if you haven't got any of them yet. Good luck.

me on the 12th..:specs:

I'm focusing on NCSBN questions and La Charity..I wanted to get Kaplan but its so expensive..

yea we can all do this..Goodluck to us..

hey, my advice for you is to stick with answering questions. Do as many as possible. To me, NCLEX exam was like running a track championship... you have to workout everyday to feel ready for the race. just like track championship no one feels ready for this exam coz that is how its set up. Do questions even in your sleep and read the rationale for every question. Best of luck.

thank you very much!! i only used kaplan book ang the cd that came with it. i feel so nervouse.

I think that you do have to know a reasonable amount of content to pas the exam so:

1. study content especially endocrine i.e Addison/Cushings, DI, SIAHH, etc

2. Basically know main systems and their various diseases/main meds that go with them

3, practice tons of questions- I wouldn't recommend doing more than 100 a day because you want to read the rationales and really understand. I find over 100 quesitons a day, i got brain fatigued and the law of diminishing demands kicked in

4. Know or practice many priority patients - i.e who would the nurse see first or which phone call should the rn return first

5. Know/practice lots of delegation questions - ie. there is 1 rn, 2lvns and 1 unlicensed personall, which patient should the lpn or rn get

6. know psych

7. know infection control, ppe worn, which type of client would u room with another client etc

8. know lab values etc

u still have time but just try to organishe your studies. Kaplan qbank was great in that the screen is exactly like NClex and many of the therapeutic communication, delegation and priority questions were similar to the exam.
