I'm a nursing major, so A&P is obviously a requirement, but I'm withdrawing. All semester long, I've struggled, and it's not like I haven't been trying. I've done all I can, but my professor doesn't teach, and I looked at it, and unless I ace the next two tests AND the last lab practical, I won't get a C which is what is considered passing for nursing. So tomorrow, I'm meeting with my advisor (which I was going to do anyway to go over what I'm taking next semester) and withdrawing from the course. This means that I have to retake it next semester, and take A&P II over the summer, but there isn't much else I can do. Ugh.

Well, better to withdraw and live to fight another day, than to stick it out for a D and have to repeat it anyway with the low D GPA points. Good luck next term. And don't neglect to start studying the material now at your own pace.
I don't learn much from reading which is why I've had so much trouble this semester. I did just buy some extra materials though, and I could continue using them.

I would just like to forewarn you that once you get into nursing courses, you will be responsible for reams and reams of material that will not be covered or "taught". I'm talking hundreds and hundreds of pages per week. You will have to become an "independant learner" in order to make it.
That may (or may not) be true. But if it doesn't work out, fine. I'll do education. It's been my backup for years.

I hope its not too late for you to withdraw. I know at my college we're well past the withdraw date. We have finals Dec 10-12. Yippee! almost done Microbiology lecture and lab with Bs.
A&P and microbiology are all self-learning classes, takes a lot of studying time to get through them with good grades. Same holds true for nursing classes.
It's not. We have until the 20th of this month.
Also, as I've said before on this forum...my A&P prof doesn't teach at all. It's what, 10 weeks into the semester and we've had maybe 7 days that she's lectured. All the other profs at least lecture and teach in that way. My prof posts the notes on Blackboard and expects us to learn them.

I had to drop A&P I over the summer for the same reason. We were given a handout and even though I would try to study and memorize it I couldn't seem to pass either, the study guide just never seemed "intune" with the test. I am retaking it this fall with a different professor and I am doing quite well. I decided it wasn't worth beating myself up over the summer and spending a full Saturday in class knowing know matter how hard I tried I wasn't going to pass. We lost a lot of people that semester and the faill rate was really high. Out of about 35 people I think there were 12 or 14 at the final. I am not a quitter by any means and struggled with the decision for several weeks before I decided to withdraw.
Good Luck!!
I'm withdrawing because mathematically it would be impossible for me to pass, and I don't want to lower my GPA, especially since I have to retake the class anyway.
I need to do A&P II over the summer, and pass, because if I don't, then I can't progress into the nursing of year 2. (I'm in a direct entry program).
Make sure you file a formal written complaint to the A&P department head detailing what you found lacking in the teacher's class.
Its only by filing written complaints that something can be done to get rid of bad teachers.
If you know anyone else in the class that is withdrawing or failing for the same reason, make sure they also file complaints.
The professor is supposedly a good one. She just decided not to teach this semester. Also, next semester she's supposed to be going back to her old style of lecturing.
There are at least 7 other people who will be withdrawing. My advisor told me this when I had my meeting with her today.

hey good luck to you!! I dropped my math course this semester it was a difficult choice but it has helped me loads in my other courses because I've been able to stay on top of my a*p and other classes.. I know it stinks but it will benefit you in the long run! *I'm planning on taking college algebra over summer.. I'll have to see how that goes! Hopefully well *Oh and I'm not a quiter either..and I have never dropped a class before or failed a class..so it was really hard to do! Now I'm pretty positive about the situation though!!
