I hope all went well for you, Jennerizer! I had my first skills check off today as well. Passed, but was shaking like a leaf the whole time. My instructor kept putting her hand over mine and smiling at me. I nailed the blood pressure on the first try, but I had to really search for the apical pulse. (My "patient" had big boobies.) The only problem I had was reading the mercury thermometer--go figure. :) My instructor was very nice and forgiving--I think they all realized we were all scared to death. But we all survived, just like they said!
Next stop--bedmaking and baths!

I passed all three on the first try....woo hoo!!!!!! And I even had to go first, which was sort of what I wanted to do so I wouldn't be nervous all day waiting. There were about 5 of us that completed all 3 skills on the first try. The rest have to go to remediation & try again next week. It seemed like the blood pressure or the head to toe assessment is what most messed up on and I think it had more to do with being nervous rather than just not knowing what they were doing.
I'm relieved it's over.........3 skills down, 3 to go. We start on dressings & catheter's next week. And we have our math test on Wednesday. Guess you know what I'm doing this weekend. :)
Good job on passing your skills test Aimee!!! We don't get to baths for a few more weeks & I'm not sure if we even cover bedmaking this semester....hmmmm.
Thanks for the well wishes!

I have my first skills evaluations tomorrow....three of them in a row. I'm 100% confident with the hand washing. Pretty confident with vital signs (the exception is blood pressure...nervous about that skill) & hoping I don't forget anything during the physical assessment. I feel like I have it downpat.....just trying to remember the descriptive wording for the different body parts & reminding myself to not describe anything as "normal." Within normal limits...within normal limits...lol.
Wish me luck!!!!! Any advice???
