Will Be graduating soon...Needs Advice.

Published

I am a permanent resident of the USA and reside in California. I went back to the Philippines to study nursing and by 2011 next year I will be graduating. I will be coming back to the US for good to get my license and to practice my profession. Any advice for a soon to be novice? What are the best states/cities for me to find good work? What good options do I have? I hear that demand for nurses will boom again starting next year.

Thank You! Your help is appreciated :)

Demand will "boom" next year? Don't know where you would have heard that, and I wouldn't hold my breath. The economy has barely improved, unemployment is still horrible, and no one knows what will happen with healthcare with the new "reform" legislation that has been passed. There is plenty of discussion on this board about which areas of the US are completely oversaturated with nurses, and which areas still have some needs. You may want to continue to follow that as you get closer to graduation.

Best wishes!

The "boom" will be because starting 2011 a lot of baby boomer nurses will be reaching their legal retirement age so supposedly hospitals and employers will be trying to fill in the spaces they leave. There will also be a demand for nurses in caring facilities for those retiring. At least that's what i heard....

In my area this has already started and the employers are just not hiring nurses to fill the holes. Many of the job losses at my hospital are retirees not being replaced.

I like that rumor, hope it helps me find a job when I graduate next year.

How have you maintained your permanent residency if you've been overseas for school for 4 years?

@ghillbert: I applied for a re entry permit.

@dissonant, you might want to look into SNF and LTCs
