Why are they after me?

Published

Ok this may be long but idk, ill try. SO..........I was called (at work) by my employer and she says "what happened last Saturday?" and I'm like "I dont know what you are talking about." She tells me that she received an email stating (from my nurse manager) that I had an "encounter" with a nurse supervisor. And I told her that I still didn't know what she was talking about, that the only time I had seen the supervisor was when the charge nurse had called to see if another nurse could leave with us at 7 instead of 11 because we'd only had 1 patient on the floor and 4 nurses coming in for the night shift! Ok this is where it gets good. At this time, a patient family member had come to the station stating that he was told he couldn't spend the night with his wife and at this time, myself and another nurse (while the supervisor was there mind you) told the family member it was the floor's policy that family members not spend the night. With the supervisor there, the charge nurse basically consulted her asking what she thought and she (the nurse supervisor) also said no. Well this family member starting raising sand and the supervisor gave in. The family member went back to the patient's room and the supervisor states "im not going to argue with him." I then stood up and said TO AN UNLICENSEND ASSISTIVE PERSONNEL, "Imma go take a breather on that one."

Ok fellow nurses, please tell me where was the encounter? specifically what was the encounter concerning patient care? I don't recall saying anything to the supervisor, infact, all I said was the floor's policy and I was gonna take a breather! Why did I get a nasty gram sent to my employer about that? Why did my nurse manager send this nasty gram and didn't ask me about it first? please help me understand! Oh and if it helps, the two nurses I worked with spoke with my employer on the phone and told my employer exactly this.

Yes I am civilian and she is military. However I am a veteran myself.

I recently had this happen to me. A client called my employer to complain about me. It was a non complaint and I was incensed that they would do such a thing. Now my employer can't seem to get it through their head that I refuse to work for this client again. And I will no longer explain why. It should be more than obvious why.

I understand where your coming from. Management has so many rules its almost impossible to be in 100% in compliance. If we break a rule your in trouble, but management bends the rules for their convienence.

At our facility we have 24 hr visitation, the rule is that familiy members are not supposed to spend the night unless a patient is in a private room. If a family member wants to spend the night and the patient is in a semi-private, we are to redirect them to the floor solarium where they can spend the night and check-up on their family member frequently.

Our facility has been over capacity for months our solariums have been made into patient rooms. We have no where to direct families who want to be close to thier family members. We have to direct them to the hospital lobby, or large surgical waiting room. Which is on another floor. Families are often angry when we tell them they will not be able to spend the night in close proximity to their love one.

Our hospital is also all about improving customer service to improve Press Ganey. If a family member puts up a big stink staff often times gives in to avoid a confrontation. This isn't fair to the other patient in the room.

Your in a no win situation, no matter what you do someone is going to be upset. management dosen't see how they are contributing to this situation by continue to allow 24 hr visitation.

Well Im currently debating on whether or not to write a formal complaint letter to my contractor company regarding this issue. Im just furious that my own "nurse manager" didn't have the intestinal fortitude to give me a heads up or even ask me what happened. this is just nonsense

Rather than adding yet another "nasty gram" to the pile, why don't you just request a meeting with the supervisor and your nurse manager to discuss the incident and clear the air? Doesn't anyone ever resolve conflicts in person anymore?

Horseshoe I totally understand what you are saying. What I want to do is file a complaint and in that letter request a meeting with them two and a non affiliated third paty person and also the witnesses to this "alleged encounter" the two nurses on the shift have already spoken with my contractor concerning this matter.

And also Horseshoe. This nurse manager isn't the type of person that just holds his tongue and surprises people with things like this. This is a guy who will put you and your business on blast at the nurses station, during report, while a patient is standing there. this is a man who will come grab you while you are rounding with a doctor to ask you about nonsense. And this guy and I (I thought), we were really cool. So for him to remain silent and not even give a heads up is very troubling to me. Makes me wonder what's really going on!

And also this is a man who can misinterpret things BUT he will for darn sure get to the bottom of it as soon as he finds out about something. This week long silence just gives me pause.
