Hi everyone,
I have been reading this forum for months now and do enjoy it most of the time.
I do however notice that that the negative posts far out weight the positive ones. Some of the stories you read make you want to take an extra dose of Zoloft and see if World War 3 is already in progress.
Yes, Nursing is a hard job, Employers are mostly evil, Coworkers will eat their own young, Patients are all a pain in the ...,.
Seriously now, there has to be some good things abut nursing, I happen to love it, did so when I was a LPN and still do being a RN, not that my work has changed since I became a RN two years ago.
My favorite part of nursing is actually making a difference in the life of my patient and their family, seeing them recover from what seemed to be curtain doom ( I work in ICU). What makes you feel great about nursing ?

So, I should not have answered the OP's original question which was "What makes you feel great about nursing?" I stated that everyone did a GREAT job at explaining why there are negative post. I could not have added more to that, but I could answer what makes me feel great about nursing. I do not go around with rainbows in my pockets, but I am someone that tries to make the best out of any situation. Honestly, I'd rather see other people respond with an answer to the OP's question.
You missed the smiley face next to her name.
Doing the best I can for my patients at the end of their lives.
I love how my patients and family members invite us into their homes to help them at a most difficult time.
To care for the dying has been the most rewarding and humbling experience for me.
I love going to work every day and doing the best I possibly can within my scope of practice. :)
Most of us have a passion for nursing, which keeps us in the trenches to begin with. But, unempathetic management, backstabbing co-workers, elevated ratios of patients and unrealistic expectations from administration can really, really, be a DRAG. And, the more years we have in nursing, the harder it is for those who wish to leave it to find other jobs because this is all that most of us know.
I wish for better circumstances all the time. But what does keep me thus far is the positive reviews I get from patients, the co-workers that I admire and the loved ones that support me.
I agree, I seem to be drawn to the funny posts. I also find that I am really hard on people whining about the job. Sometime , maybe a little too hard. Especially on new nurses who havn't been in nursing long enough to have figured anything out yet , let alone any real issues. I don't like negative stuff. I spend the day in negativity, I enjoy a good laugh or a story about how someone helped another.
