In our family almost of us are nurses so i said to them that i'm into medical field in college but not nursing for a change in the family but unfortunately my aunt enrolled me in nursing in a community college until i've learned to love the course . Its amazing you need to be flexible in different situation especially in ER setting.
My dad and I had a talk one day, about my future. My dad tells me to pick a career that you will always have a job, and that you won't have to rely on a man, for your financial security. I took his advice to heart, and picked nursing. Nursing has security, opportunities, and is flexible. You can have kids, and be out of nursing for awhile, then you can get right back into it. I see that happening a lot. I have never regretted my decision on becoming a nurse.
I had to have surgery when I was about 10 and I just thought the nurses were the coolest people ever. They were so smart and seemed like they had that whole place under control. That sparked my interest. I went to college working towards a nursing degree because it seemed like a stable job and I enjoyed the blood and guts. My freshman year my dad got diagnosed with brain cancer and I moved home to take care of him. I got to see the harder side of nursing. Taking care of someone who can't do it themselves. I found that even that part gave me such joy. I just want to help people. Days will be hard and I know that but there will be days that will make it all worth it. My dad went out of the world seeing me fight for my nursing dream and I am going to fight to get there.
I chose nursing because my mother was a nurse and I needed something that could get me in the working world quickly as I had a small child. I fell in love with it so I guess it was fate. I was very satisfied as an LPN for 20 years but recently I began feeling as though I wasn't making a difference anymore. Nursing in my area has changed so I guess I'm changing with the times. If I need more education to make a difference then I am going for it! I look forward to my future growth in nursing! :-)

I don't know if I'd say it was a calling -- more that maybe how I'm made matches up with nursing. I love medicine and taking care of people and the weird things their bodies do/they did to themselves/others did to them. I love the process of nursing and all the things that nurses have the opportunity to do, least of which comes with a great amount of autonomy and patient teaching. Once I got into it, I was like, "Dang, I wish I had known a nurse growing up because I never would have taken so long getting around to it."
