  1. So i'm going to shamelessly promote my school and suggest Utica's ABSN program, especially if you know you want a BSN. I'm in florida, but they have a new york program too. If you're worried about your GPA, don't be. I didn't have the best either, but they accept as low as 2.8--just double checked their site (here) to make sure that is still the case. good luck and take care of yourself!
  2. Seven years ago, I graduated college with a degree in business and psychology and found a job in customer service at a manufacturer. It quickly sucked the life out of me. At first, I thought it was just post-graduation blues. Life slows way down after you graduate and I was now a working stiff just paying the bills. So I needed to accept that college was over and I was an adult now with responsibilities. Right? Two years ago I was still not happy, so I thought a change in industries might help. I moved back home with my parents in Florida and in a bad economy, I took the first thing I could find. I became a receptionist in a doctor's office. I like working with people. I like meeting different types of people and getting to know them. But I still didn't like what I was doing. There is nothing wrong with either of these career paths. Just not for me. It was probably close to midnight and I couldn't sleep. How could I have this 4 year degree and turn it into something I enjoyed? My mom saw the light was still on and came out to talk to me. Listened to me vent and finally said, 'Life is too short to spend it doing something you don't love.' My mom has been a nurse for over 30 years and said she couldn't imagine doing anything else with her time. That it was challenging, frustrating, and at times infuriating, but so rewarding at the end of the day. To become a nurse, I'd have to go back to school. And the thought of another 4 years degree made me nauseous. I'd be in my mid-30's by the time I could get a job. No thanks. I started doing research, found allnurses.com and found this blog post about how it's never too late to go change careers. http://acceleratednursing.utica.edu/blog/how-to-start-over-with-a-new-career/ Utica College would let me sit for the NCLEX in less than two years and had a Florida location in the Tampa Bay area. Ummm, perfect! I'm going to become part-time at my job and start taking classes soon. I still don't know if I'm making the right choice. I just know I want to help people and make an impact. From what my mom has told me, that's what nursing is. I am so nervous and so excited.
  3. I've been talking to an advisor for Utica's St. Petersburg location. If you already have a non-nursing bachelors, then'd you'd qualify for the program. I'm all but certain I'm going there spring 2015. They were really helpful and have been nice to me. You can check it out at Accelerated Nursing Program in Florida - Utica College NursingUtica Nursing Florida | Just another Utica Nursing site Hope this helps. Good luck in your search!
  4. I've been looking into accelerated nursing programs in Florida and came across something that looks like a part online, part classroom program through Utica College in St. Petersburg. First, does anyone know anything about the program/school and second, has anyone else gone the accelerated, hybrid route for their nursing degree?
  5. I've had a desk job for 6 years and am burnt out. I recently talked with my mom, who is a nurse, about really affecting other people's lives. At the end, I want to say my time here mattered. So I'm gonna do it. Really nervous, but I'm gonna go back to school to become a nurse.
