They tried the BSN only in the 70s and that non-BSN RN's would only be emptying bedpans!
I think when the BSN matters is if you want your MSN, a management position, to become a NP, or whenever the employing hospital places that as a hiring criteria.
Having lived through nursing for 30 years I still don't think the BSN will be the only nurse practicing. Happy Holidays to all.
I hear that NY is going to start in the next few years, but I think you are grandfathered in if you graduated before a certain year?? I know that in the NYC hospitals are not hiring ADN into specialty areas as new grads. I think that has more to do with most of these hospitals have BSN programs of thier own, and that is supposed to be an incentive to attend thier program ![]()
