Who's Getting a Flu Shot?

I called the health department today and scheduled mine. It's only ten dollars.

I had the seasonal flu vaccine the day it was avail. Can't wait to get the H1N1- 2 more weeks from what I hear. We currently have between 60-90 patients with flu/poss pneumonia on our medical floors. It is spreading like wildfire and I see a lot less risk in getting the vaccine than getting the H1N1 flu! As for those people who "never get the flu, so they never get the shot" it's frightening how easily this virus is being transmitted- get your H1N1 shot! Even if you recover- which is most likely, do you want to take a chance of giving it to your daughter or grandson and having him die! It's killing young children and pregnant young women. If you can be sure you will not be in contact with any young children or pregnant women, or anyone who may be in contact with them, then sure- skip the shot. Bet unless you are going to live in a cave for the rest of the winter you are risking spreading a dangerous virus to vulnerable people. As health care workers we need to set the example.

I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago...

I got both on 10/20 for free at the hospital I work at. My son has been sick since 10/17 and is going to the doctor this afternoon. They think he has swine flu. He turns 6 this month and has been home from school all week. My daughter who turns 5 this month now has a fever too! My sister is 28 weeks pregnant and she was over on 10/17 with her 2 year old and now i'm so worried about them catching it! I was told it takes 4-6 days after exposure to show symptoms!!

I never have gotten a flu shot nor will I receive the H1N1. I have never really had a problem with my health so my immune system is enough to fight off whatever I get. Also, I think I had a case of H1N1 over summer, so I have developed antibodies for it already!

I'm not getting either shot, and niether is my son even though he has Asthma. Good handwashing, keeping your hands away from your face is how I haven't had the flu and hopefully never will.

I got my flu shot :) Still waiting on the H1N1 to become available

If I were you I would get the shot, talked to a nurse this morning at the Ped office. Not getting the shot for high risk like asthma isn't safe. Bad mouth me all you want, I'm not going to sit back and pretend its okay for someone to deny their child a shot that could save them.

I've gone through this debate with a lot of people, but I didn't go through it with my sons doctor. He doesn't like that the H1N1 shot was barely tested. I feel that what is going to save him is common sense, such as good handwashing, disinfecting his toys, and watching for the signs of illness being ready with the pulmicort, and albuterol. I assure you I would not indanger my child. I sought the advice of his respiratory doctor before making any decision on his immunizations.
