I paid for school by signing a tuition forgiveness program where the school pays for tuiton if I promise to work for UPMC for two years. My instructor told me I didn't have to stay with UPMC if I didn't want to, that lots of places would be willing to buy my loan, and I would work for them for the two years. I have been looking around and have yet to find anyone willing to buy my loan. Does anyone know of facilities in the Pittsburgh/Butler area that buys loans? I would greatly appreciate any leads.

Specializes in Emergency, neonatal, pediatrics.

I don't know of any loan "buybacks", but certainly West Penn Allegheny offers sign on bonuses to new grads. Mine was $10,000 over three years at West Penn, but that was awhile ago and they may have increased it.

god no, but I wish I knew some place that would offer that - I know of ZERO facilities that do that for nurses. Now if you're a doctor.....

I did actually apply to a position at AKMC, and they wanted to hire me...at $12.50/hour, with no mention of any sign on bonus, and no buying of loans. You would think with the Nursing shortage that bonuses would get better, not worse!

$12.50 an HOUR for what? You're a nurse, right? An RN or LPN?

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

The VA hospital has been known to pay off tuition forgivenes offers

What is AKMC? it's not in PA, is it? Is this a CNA position because offering a nurse, an RN, $12.50/hr is just a sin.

Do you happen to know how long you need to work for them to be free of the loan? Do you know anyone who has done this with them?

I worked for the VA for a very short time. I'm pretty sure it's 3 years you have to give them.

I'm guessing that you didn't like it because you were there only a short time. Or was it just circumstancial?

I didn't like it. It was extremely boring. Kinda hard to believe for a nursing job. I was an LPN at the time and on the floor I was on, I was more or a less a CNA. I don't mind giving baths and such, but I was lucky if I passed meds once a month. My skills were not being utilized.
