Here's one suggestion to secure your seat in a class... contact the schools that you are interested in, and ask if they have received any federal grants. These can take the form of retraining outsourced workers, returning homemakers to the workforce, displaced auto/real estate/financial employees, etc.
My school is on a lottery system for NS program acceptance, (with a minimum GPA required). Some students have watched three nursing classes from the outside, while waiting for their number to be selected by the computer. I found out that the school had accepted mega-bucks from Uncle Sam to help veterans return to the workplace through nursing... yet they hadn't notified the Veteran's Office at school that the grant had been received. Thus, Veterans were enrolled in RT, Xray, and LPN programs because their lottery numbers weren't being selected for the RN program. I called them on it.... and have a seat in the class beginning in August. (The grant was to guarantee preferential weight to Veterans... meaning by-passing the lottery system)
I applied to the University of Mississippi's Accelerated BSN program! To Matt, I was just up there in June at the Mayo clinic. I donated a kidney to my mom. Minnesota is COLD!!! To LaBrittany I used to live in Atlanta! I lived in Post Briar Cliff it is near Emory. Emory is an awesome school! My boyfriend's sister's fiance is in PA Schhol there and he really likes it! Good luck to everyone!!! This is going to be tough to wait!!!!!!!
I turn in my application next week and then notification letters are mailed april15th. We were told no matter how you plead, they will not let you know whether or not you made it in. We have to wait for the letter. They said that they will mail a letter to everyone, I think if it is thick it is acceptance. I will be pulling my hair out with anticipation until then
I know! I think I am driving my friends, boyfriend and family NUTS!!! It is such a big deal though. I am a career changer at 30 with a bachelor's in another field. I was a flight attendant and then september 11 and fuel prices ruined the stability of that industry. Then I tried leasing apartments. I thought grumpy passengers could be a PITA. Try residents! Not to say that I blame them. I would be annoyed too if my toilet was stopped up or my home was flooded. However, it is usually not the front line employees fault. Hence the frustration. At least with nursing patients usually have ample reason to "vent." Then there was sales. What can I say about sales? Ever heard the old adage, "Hero to zero?" That pretty much sums up sales! With this economy being so crazy and jobs so scarce. Healthcare is such an awesome option. I have always wanted to go to nursing school I was just too scared I would never get in. So...here we are now waiting!!!! I wish all of us luck!

That's right; this semester is over and it's no longer in my hands! :yeah:I'm officially playing the waiting game! I've done all that I can and all that needs to be done. The school's acceptance letters go out in March so I'm on here looking for someone, anyone on here who might be in the same boat as me and who wants to jump into the pool and swim with me as we wait for our numbers to be called!
So... anyone out there?
