i am about to finish up my pre-reqs at hfcc and take my net. after that, i can finally put my name on the waitlist. i drive from ann arbor to hfcc because i was told their waitlist is 6-18 mos, whereas washtenaw community college (which i live 2 miles from!!!) has a 3-4yr waitlist.
what other community college's have a state approved adn program? i didn't know i really had any options other than waiting it out (and driving lots!!) at hfcc... is there someplace else with a shorter waitlist that i should consider?
thanks!! :redbeathe

If you don't mind driving, check into Macomb Community College in Clinton Twp, www.macomb.edu ....no waitlist at all.

emu has no waitlist at all.. it's all a gpa system
That's true but EMU is a 4-yr BSN program, whereas I am just looking to get my ADN and then have my employer give tuition reimbursement towards an ADN to BSN program.
Thanks though!

Wayne County....no wait...goes off GPA. But I'm not sure, I heard they are starting a new no transfer policy or something?

I work at U of M hosp. and they pay for 75% tuition reimburstment for ADN, they pay for the prereqs as well you should ask your employer.

WCCCD had a 12 credit hour policy for transfer students. They will not evaluate your transcripts until you have completed 12 credit hours at their college. In the past, the nursing department waived this policy for applicants and your transfer transcripts were evaluated immediately.
As of Jan. 2009 they will not be issuing the waiver anymore and all transfer students will need to complete 12 credit hours at WCCCD before they will evaluate transcripts.
I hope this helps...this is what was told to us at the April 1st information meeting!

If you are in Ann Arbor and don't plan to move closer, I don't think I would necessarily recommend Macomb. That is a VERY long drive and not a lot of fun in the winter! (they rarely if ever call of for weather and I live much closer than you and hate the drive!). Monroe CC, Jackson CC, Schoolcraft, Wayne CC and Oakland CC all have programs that are closer to you. Jackson CC is a pretty easy program to get into. I went there for a while and did some pre-reqs for nursing. They go by a points system by grades in pre-reqs and I believe you would also get points for EMT, Paramedic etc experience if you have any.

The wait at HFCC has been shorter the last two years...more like 12-14 months, if even that long. Can you position yourself for both? WCC really takes 3-4 years? Ew. I hear that is a really good program. How many places do they accept every fall?
Yey - I bet you get into SOME program at HFCC by January - perhaps that accelerated one.
Well, I went and spoke to the Nursing counselors yesterday at HCC. I will be finished with pre-reqs after Spring and Summer, so I can get on the waitlist in Sept as long as my NET goes OK in Sept. They told me I'd probably be looking at Winter 2010 or Fall 2010. So it's at a year and a half to 2yrs right now. They said they have seen a 20% increase in the number of students coming on to the waitlist in the last year alone.
I hear Washtenaw CC is so long because they have a great program and limited instructors. They only let 60 ppl in during the Fall semester and 30 ppl during the Winter. But they could be old info, my friend was in the program last year. I know for sure they still have the long wait though.. I live down the street from them, so they were the first school I contacted regarding the ADN program!
I am just going to stick with HFCC. The drive actually isn't too bad, and I think in the meantime I will just work on the co-reqs, like A&P, etc. I made it home during rush hour traffic in only 40 mins yesterday! Not bad for being stop and go on 1-94 at the airport for 5-10 mins!

WOWOWOWOWOWOW - fall of 2010 - that's hard to even read. 20% increase - wow.
Yes, it's only a 40 minute drive from Dearborn to Ann Arbor - I made that drive for years, and really, only had a bad winter's drive less than 5 times in a 12 year period.
2010 - wow.
i know, isn't that astounding?? i couldn't believe my ears; that sounds soooo far in the future! that's why i was considering getting my cna in the meantime. that way i'd have something to do, i'd possibly find a job in a hospital and i'd gain experience while waiting it out on the list.
what do you think?? :heartbeat
