  1. :redbeathe:nurse::redbeathe:nurse: hello! i graduated in may 09. i started applying for jobs in january, but i already had a position as a student nurse associate at children's hospital of michigan. i applied for the nurse residency program there, interviewed and was hired onto the unit where i worked as a student. (hematology/oncology/nephrology) i have an adn, went to wcccd. loving my job! :heartbeat
  2. Hey everyone. I am starting to get a little worried....I still haven't received my ATT, so today I check my application status and it says I'm missing my fingerprints...I did that in March! Anyone else have this problem? Jillian
  3. geez, I'm not sure if they're changing the uniform! It's good to hear from you. Where are you working? I am in MS4, only 3 more weeks, and I am excited! Email me if you get a chance, I've been wanting to tell you something. Jillian [email protected]
  4. I will be graduating (as long as all goes well!!) next month from WCCCD. I also have uniforms that I will give away to whoever could use them. I have two pairs of size medium petite pants, one draw string, one elastic both of them are flare leg. I also have a size medium button up collared shirt with a patch, and a large brand new shirt with no patch. (from Allheart.com) I could give these away mid may. If you are interested email me at [email protected]. Jillian
  5. I work at children's as a student nurse, and I'm in an ASN program. They hired me with full intentions to give me a grad nurse position. There are plenty of ADN/ASN nurses on my unit as well. You will be fine. (Plus, they offer tuition reimbursement to get that BSN later!)
  6.:ancong!::urck: Congrats!! How exciting. You will pass the NCLEX no problem! Jillian
  7. Just to add to that, since I work on the floor you will be working on ( I will meet you soon!) It is pretty well known that the SNA's in the PICU get to do more than on our floor. One of the other SNA's on 6west is friends with someone in the PICU. So the experience is really great and you will learn a ton, but don't expect to do dressing changes and IV stuff. And I have personally (knock on wood) have not had a patient die, while they were on 6west. They have died at home or in PICU maybe, but not on our floor, at least not while I was there. FYI, trust me you will have your hands full with the duties you will have, because we are usually responsible for 8 patients. Plus, sometimes we have to do vitals on even more than that. That's a lot of charting, i/o's, beds/baths, urine dips(we do a ton of these!), blood draws, etc. Congrats on the job! See you soon. Jillian
  8. well...a to be an SNA, you just have to be in Nursing school and have completed one med/surg clinical rotation. To be a PCA, I believe you have to have some sort of training, either CNA, medical assistant, EMT, there are a few different ways to be qualified.
  9. Hello! I am an SNA on 6west at Children's (Oncology). We are responsible for vitals, specimen collections (urine, stool, blood-by venipuncture or fingerpoke), also i/o's, morning care, bed changes, feeding babies if there are no parents there...our "scope of practice" is pretty narrow, but I have learned so much about oncology/renal/sickle cell, it is amazing.
  10. Congratulations to both of you! Especially you DAMomma! You have been an inspiration to me through this whole program! You will be a great nurse.
  11. She is at Henry Ford. I would recommend St. John's With Hedi Bednarz. She is really good.
  12. I started the program at WCCCD in August 07, and I have not failed a class (knock on wood). I have gone through the program with a friend that I made on the first day of Nursing school orientation, and she has not failed either. It just depends. You have to be self motivated.
  13. I understand your thinking, and it is nice of you to worry about us, but you should look into these things before making those types of statements. WCCCD credits transfer to all the major universities. I personally plan on getting my BSN at Madonna after I graduate from WCCCD in May. Madonna's program seems to be similar to Wayne County's.
  14. I also just finished up med/surg 3! The final wasn't too bad, but that midterm was rough! I am glad I made it through! 3 more rotations to go!
  15. I would get this one for sure: Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN 2nd Ed. Linda Ann Silvestri Paperback $10.00 Acceptable condition, missing CD ISBN 0-7216-9235-4 Can you please tell me where this list came from? Is it Amazon? I am just wondering because I work as an SNA on 6west at children's hospital and I thought this was weird : Children's Hospital 6 West Handbook 4th Ed. $5.00 Since you are not in the program, I probably wouldn't get any actual textbooks because you are going to have to buy plenty of those. I would get....an nclex book that has a review and pratice questions...maybe you can familiarize yourself with the style of questions., and definitely brush up on your patho, anatomy and medical terminology (a medical dictionary for sure) Good luck to you.
