HFCC Nursing Program waitlist????
so even if i don't have the required qualifications i can still apply for a position? i guess it doesn't hurt... i just thought that if they listed stuff like knowledge of software, 1+yr experience in a medical setting, etc that i would have to have those qualifications... i assume if they say you need to be certified in say, medical assisting or nurses aide that i shouldn't bother, right? :heartbeat

HFCC Nursing Program waitlist????
any advice on how to get a job at a hospital without experience? haha.. but seriously, i really want to get in and get some experience and a feel for the environment, etc. also, i have heard about tuition reimbursement and the accelerated program, etc. it just seems as though working at a hospital while waiting to get in and through the program would be extrememly beneficial. i have been checking all of the local hospital job sites, and so far i am not qualified for anything!! there seem to be a lot of jobs that require at least 1-yr in a hospital or medical setting, which i don't have... or a cna... or a med asst... etc. i was hoping to find something like a patient transporter or some type of clerical/scheduling position, but i am not seeing anything like that. and the few i have seen require experience in their scheduling software, etc. i am becoming so frusterated!! any ideas? :heartbeat

Who has the shortest waitlist in Metro Detroit?
hfcc offers a 16-cr cna course during the fall and winter semesters. pretty much all of the hospital job sites in the area are hiring cna's. question: u of m keeps referring to them as medical assistants. are they the same as cnas?

Who has the shortest waitlist in Metro Detroit?
i know, isn't that astounding?? i couldn't believe my ears; that sounds soooo far in the future! that's why i was considering getting my cna in the meantime. that way i'd have something to do, i'd possibly find a job in a hospital and i'd gain experience while waiting it out on the list. what do you think?? :heartbeat

Should I go for my CNA while waitlisted for RN?? Can't find a hospital job!
i need help figuring out what to do! i am about to go on the waitlist at hfcc for the rn program. i will have 1-2yrs, and only one or two semesters will actually be productive (i will take the co-reqs, such as a&p, etc). i started looking at hospital job sites to see if i could get my foot in the door anywhere. although i have a fabulous paying job right now, it is 45hrs/wk, and i just can't schedule classes around it anymore (i work 7-6pm m, t, w, th), it's impossible! so i told the family i am with (i'm a nanny) that starting in the fall i'd have to leave them so i can have more flexibility with classes. i have to put school first, even if i will be broke and possibly homeless.. haha. the problem? i can't seem to figure out how i will get my foot in the door at a hospital. i have never worked in health care, so the only jobs i'd be evenly remotely qualified for are patient transporter, clerical (not involving med terms, which i have no knowledge of yet), etc. i have been searching around and these types of positions just don't seem to be available. i have looked at dmc, henry ford health system, st. joe's in ann arbor, u of m ann arbor, etc. i am seeing a few jobs for cna's though. sooo my question is... should i get my cna while waiting to get into the nursing program?? i really feel like i should try and get into a hospital for the experience, but i don't know how! thanks so much, and sorry for the long post... i'm just frusterated and don't know where to go from here.. :heartbeat

Should I just go for RN
i wasn't trying to put lpn's down!! please don't take offense to what i said. it's just that i have heard a lot of people talking about how hard it is to get a job as an lpn. i have had friends straight-out tell me not to do it because they have experienced a lot of disappointment and frsuteration trying to get a job when everyplace they looked just wanted rns. research it. talk to the health care counselors at your school. check out the hospital career websites. look at u of m, dmc, henry ford health system, etc. they all post their jobs online, and you can get an idea of what is in demand and what they are looking for. i have been lurking on the hospital job sites, and it seemed to me that they were hiring a ton of rn positions and not any lpns. honestly, it's just a warning, not a put down-- nothing personal at all. i just thought i'd pass on the information! good luck :heartbeat

Who has the shortest waitlist in Metro Detroit?
Well, I went and spoke to the Nursing counselors yesterday at HCC. I will be finished with pre-reqs after Spring and Summer, so I can get on the waitlist in Sept as long as my NET goes OK in Sept. They told me I'd probably be looking at Winter 2010 or Fall 2010. So it's at a year and a half to 2yrs right now. They said they have seen a 20% increase in the number of students coming on to the waitlist in the last year alone. I hear Washtenaw CC is so long because they have a great program and limited instructors. They only let 60 ppl in during the Fall semester and 30 ppl during the Winter. But they could be old info, my friend was in the program last year. I know for sure they still have the long wait though.. I live down the street from them, so they were the first school I contacted regarding the ADN program! I am just going to stick with HFCC. The drive actually isn't too bad, and I think in the meantime I will just work on the co-reqs, like A&P, etc. I made it home during rush hour traffic in only 40 mins yesterday! Not bad for being stop and go on 1-94 at the airport for 5-10 mins! :heartbeat

Has Anyone Been Accepted For HFCC Fall 08
I am surprised that they told you when you'd be accepted into the program. I just have 3 more classes to finish up over Spring and Summer and then I can put my name on the waitlist in September. In fact, I just saw Lorainne yesterday, and she told me anywhere from Winter 2010 to Fall 2010. Which would be 1 1/2 to 2 yrs!! They said they've seen a 20% jump in the number of students coming on to the waitlist, so maybe that is why they gave me such a long range???? Congrats! I am so jealous!

Who has the shortest waitlist in Metro Detroit?
That's true but EMU is a 4-yr BSN program, whereas I am just looking to get my ADN and then have my employer give tuition reimbursement towards an ADN to BSN program. Thanks though!

HFCC Nursing Program waitlist????
I heard that some people take Medical Terminology even though it's not required. (I don't understand why it's not part of the program!!) I was thinking of taking it too because I don't know how else I'd learn all of the terms and shorthand!

HFCC Nursing Program waitlist????
What classes are you taking while on the waitlist? You don't mean Bio 131, Chem 131, Psy 131 etc, right? Because I thought those were classes needed to get ON the waitlist.. I am so confused!

Should I just go for RN
Just a heads up, and maybe some people in the job field could back me up or dispute this, but.. I have been told by MANY friends who are RN's (randing from ADN to BSN to MSN) that hospitals don't hire LPN's. They all recommended that I don't waste my time. They said to get my ADN and then after hired at a hospital have them give me tuition reimbursement for going back to school to get my BSN. I would do a LOT of research before putting the work into becoming an LPN. I am just hearing a lot of people dismissing it and saying no one gets hired with the qualifications. Good luck!!

Has anyone enroll in nursing program @HFCC
Hmm... I wonder why I was told that if I got my co-reqs out of the way while on waitlist (classes such as Soc 131, Anatomy, etc) that I could get done in 2-3 semesters? If the program is roughly 65 credits, and your pre-reqs and co-reqs make up roughly 32 credits, why does it take 4 semesters to complete 33 credits?? Maybe I need to go back and take a second look at the program... Am I missing something here? I thought they said the whole point of getting the co-reqs out of the way while on the waitlist was so that you could get done with the program in less time (12-18 mos, as opposed to 24) I'm confused!!
