Who pays for your pin?

Published

We're having a debate about who should pay for pins. Do students? The school? A nursing club? How does it work at your school?

I know there are lots of threads about the actual ceremony and where to get the pins, but I didn't see much on who buys. I only did a quick search, though, sorry if there's already one out there!

We have the option to buy one of several different levels of quality of pins (gold plated on up through 24k). The cheapest option was around $35.

the school paid for my pin, (read = i paid for my pin inadeverdently with all the $$ i paid in tuition...)

Eh, I guess I don't value external symbols of achievement. I see your perspective though.

Thanks ;)........it is such a historical prespective and meaning....like the hippocratic oath....tradition.

Do you sign RN? BSN? MSN? MBA? same difference......I see people sign TNCC and ACLS...blah, blah, blah. Just like the age old arguement here ASN versus BSN...who's better.....symbols.

I think some traditions need to carry on....for traditions sake.:twocents::twocents:

We pay for the pin out of our fees, I'm assuming. It isn't a line item on the school's invoice. We haven't talked about the pins during any meetings, so I don't have a clue what they will look like, or if we have any choices. We didn't for LPN. One of my instructors wears all her pins (CNA, LPN, RN) on her name tag. They are a visible representation of the path she took, and she is proud of if. I don't wear the LPN one. It seemed kind of pointless on my student name tag, and I have never worked as an LPN.

We have to raise the money to pay for our pinning ceremony, the director of our program pays for the pins out of her own pocket. This is something she does each semester and has since she took over. Before than students paid for it. Most of the nurses I have seen at the hospitals here wear their pins on their badges from wherever they graduated. They are really nice Pins.
