Who attends Cy-Fair College?

U.S.A. Texas

I'm thinking of getting my ADN there. Its a relatively new program and different from the other NHMCCD programs. For those who are in this program or have graduated, does this program cover everything you need to know to pass the board exam? Just like the other programs do you have to pass the HESI in order to graduate? I'm going to the campus next week and talk to a counselor but I wanted to get your perspective on this program. I want to go to an information session but I don't know when the next one is since I can't find anything on the website.

Wow that's a bold statement. I'm sorry but I beleive an RN is an RN, not a Cy-Fair RN, HCC RN, UT RN, so on. Everyone has to pass the same boards so how can you honestly sit there and say one program is better than another? Any program that can prepare you well enough to pass boards and be a safe practicing nurse is successful in my opinion. I'm not a student in any of the programs yet so my lowly opinion may not mean much, but I can honestly say that I don't know FIRSTHAND about each program because I haven't physically been in each program. I think the same is true for you. How can you say anything about any program other than the one you physically attend? All you can rely on is your outside opinion and hearsay, which is not a reliable source. You would never believe something in nursing to be true without getting the knowledge yourself, so why would you do that with the programs? :uhoh3: Like my philosophy teacher says "people who *think* they know everything are the most dangerous"

thank you

wow, where did you hear this? I graduated last may and took my board in june and got a job after I got my results. I currently work in the ER in the medical center and I just want to clarify that the teachings in HCC is great, I can't say that it is perfect, but no other school out there is perfect. It's good that you love your school, but no offense, when was the last time you went to school at HCC coleman? Do you know how they teach? Did you graduate from HCC and started working? Did you talk to BNE and discussed with them the status of HCC's teaching license? If not, then you wouldn't really know, so please stop the bashing of other schools. Since i've registered on this board, i've never talked sh|T about other schools, if I had the chance to, I would promote each and every single one of them. I wish I could pull up the current passing rates of HCC grads on BNE, but I can't find it, I do believe that we currently have a 100% passing rate for this spring, I could be wrong.

I just want to say that HCC is not a horrible school but some would want to have the option of having more than associate degree in nursing. Hcc is an approve school thru the BNE not accredited nationally. I have been to Hcc for quite a few class and I have had some awesome instructors. It just a person preference. Good luck to everyone

wow, i was speechless..i can't help but give my two cents....i've noticed too that in the other boards, not the PRE-NURSING but the nurses themselves have had discussions over these kind of things, you know, about who is a better RN (adn vs bsn)..no wonder some nurses are disgusted about how nurses put down other nurses...i mean, c'mon why can't all nurses unite so they can have unity and other profession will have a much, i say much better respect on the nursing profession..

i think to end this kind of battle is for the pre-nursing student to stop bashing other nursing program specially if it is just a hearsay,,,no nursing program is perfect and if we (pre or nursing student)help each other..then the nursing world will be a much better place to work in...

thank you.:saint:

Here's what I have heard and know about schools in the NHMCCD district. I I attend Tomball College and am graduating this May and I absolutely love this program. The instructors are supportive and great educators. We do have the summer off, but have the option of entering the MEEP program to become an LVN. All the ppl who did the program learned so much over the summer and it helped them tremendously in clinicals. 3 of them are practicing LVN's while they attend RN school full-time. We go 3 days a week (2 days of lecture, 1 day of lab for level I, II, & III; 1 12 hour shift of clinical). In my last semester I go M-W, which is nice.

-- Most nursing students claim their schools are the best. Nursing school is hard to get into, so any school is a blessing. About advice about going to Cy-Fair....I have heard it is extremely challenging. I have a good friend going to Cy-Fair who is graduating this December and she told me she wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Now maybe this was at a moment when she was highly stressed, who knows. The stress level of the practicums and the different grading scale have been overwhelming to her. but she is doing well. I also heard that Cy-Fair is moving to 4 semesters and will have the summers off. ??? might want to verify that.

Hope it helps!

About nursing school being difficult.....they're all difficult. It is time consuming and requires much of each student. I don't care which school you attend. There is no "easy" school.

Also, you might want to call each school and ask what their admitting class numbers were and how many graduated each class. If you're looking at NCLEX pass rates and exit HESI pass rates, they're all good for each school. The important thing is the # of graduates. -- It also depends on where you want to go for clinicals. Tomball uses local hospitals (Tomball Hospital, Willowbrook methodist, Cy-Fair, and Memorial Hermann - The Woodlands). You get to select which clinical day/site. You also choose which lab day and time you want. I believe at Cy-Fair it is chosen for you. They also utlize the medical center (Texas Children's, Memorial Hermann Memorial City and a hospital in Katy among others). If you're interested in working in the medical center then it could help you get your foot in the door for internships. Lots of things to consider....

hope this helps.

jhrn2be - do you have any knowledge on north harris college? i will be starting there this august. i was just curious as to what their rn program was like? i am very nervous.. have you heard anything about it?

I have heard wonderful things about North Harris. One of my friends went there and loved it. They take 100 students. Everyone that I have talked to that goes there or went there has had nothing but good things to say about it.

Good luck to you!!!!

I feel very relieved ! Thank you!

I have also heard alot of negative things about Cy-Fair...

I only know what I've heard from 2 friends who went there. It's tough! They're all tough. As someone else mentioned, the only people who really know how it is are the ppl. in the program. I do know this....the rest of NHMCCD has integrated curriculum, meaning the first semester begins with basic and each semester the content is built upon leading up to complex.

All I can say is that each person decide what is right for them. To give you an example, we have an upper level instructor that we heard was really tough and I didn't choose her for clinicals. I have her this semester and LOVE her. I have learned so much from her. Was disapointed I didn't make my own decision vs. listening to someone else. Lesson learned.

I would like to say thank you for all the information. If you have anything you want to add like how the test, how many, how often, how many students start the program and how many are finishing with you, etc. it would helpful. Best wishes on your last semester.

Thanks
