Who attends Cy-Fair College?

I'm thinking of getting my ADN there. Its a relatively new program and different from the other NHMCCD programs. For those who are in this program or have graduated, does this program cover everything you need to know to pass the board exam? Just like the other programs do you have to pass the HESI in order to graduate? I'm going to the campus next week and talk to a counselor but I wanted to get your perspective on this program. I want to go to an information session but I don't know when the next one is since I can't find anything on the website.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I am a CyFair college nursing student and I agree that no other schools should be bashed in any way. All schools have their difficulties and the bottom line is that you pass your boards. If you pass your boards, I would say that whatever school you went to did an appropriate job of preparing you. After saying all of this, the only comparison that I have is CyFair since I haven't been to any other nursing program. It is difficult and yes the grading scale is harder than a lot, but you will be that much more prepared. Believe me, I hate the grading scale, but have managed to get passed it. If you want to be a nurse, then don't blame failures on the grading scale. If you don't like the grading scale, then apply somewhere else. Every school is not for everyone. I think CyFair has great instructors with great experiences that can be learned from. I think our clinical experiences are at some awesome facilities. Just do your homework and see what school best suits your needs.

I'm in the Cy-Fairs ADN program... trust and believe, it is not for everyone. its very demanding, stressful and front loaded, and by that I mean you will do all of your first semester skills in just 8 weeks. There are not many tests, we have a midterm and exam . A few quizzes thrown in and pass or fail praticums based on various scenarious on differ skills; Removing Cat's, NG Tube verification, Inserting enemas, that sort of thing. And yes, the math is really hard. I jsut pass it on my last shot. 20 questions and your only allowed to miss 1. My personal experiece is that given the choice, I would go elsewhere. i fing myself stressed out just walking into the class becasue it is a cosntant brain overlead wiht no time for anything. Remember, its 8 weeks instead of 16, ( hence the word, blocked program) Med surge I hear, has just been extended to 12c weeks because of the failure rate.

I can say this, its really hard, but I'm not giving up yet. Still trying to make it though the first year. Well theres my two cents worth

Hey there I just got accepted into Cyfair's Adn program and am a bit apprehensive about it. I have heard how intense it is and was wondering what you think of the program now. You are almost there...could you please give me a little insight on how to make it thru.

Thanks!
