Who is applying into George Mason Traditional program for fall 2015

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start this thread, so that prospective applicants to the nursing program can share our ideas and journey.

Thanks:)

@lanekone - just signed up for an account on here and saw this GMU thread. I know your message was directed at others (sorry to butt in), but I took my TEAS last month and found this board on allnurses to be helpful: https://allnurses.com/teas-exam-help/

Per many suggestions on the TEAS discussion board, I ended up using the ATI Study Manual (from the ATI site) and bought the online practice tests from ATI. They were a huge help! Good luck on your exam, or if you've taken it already, (seems like its been a few days since your post), I hope you did well on it!

talfan,

Welcome! Thanks for the info.

I will be taking mine in March. What schools are you applying to?

Hi lanekone,

Thanks for the welcome and good luck with the TEAS! It seems like you're getting started on studying early so I'm sure you'll ace it. The thread titled, "How I passed the TEAS V exam" was very helpful in covering potential material you could see on the exam, even though its a couple of years old.

I'm applying to just a few other schools - all in the DC metropolitan area. One is the University of Maryland, like a few others here. I also have a bachelor's degree already (I might be a bit out of place in this thread as I applied for GMU's ABSN, not the traditional - though it seems we all have a very similar application process), so I'm applying to a couple of other ABSN programs: Marymount and George Washington. Hope one of them will take me!

Lankone, sorry for replying late. I lost my pc and I am now getting a replacement. I do not have an ipad or tablet. so I cldnt come on here. Personally I would choose HESI over Teas. To be frank, I lost my mind on the TEAS, because I thought we were allowed to use a CALCULATOR. I thought wrong. So I already I got to know I wouldn't do well on it. I got overall 60% and I realized many pple I took it with also had the same thing. The teas is not like Hesi where you can choose what sections to work on. It starts you with english, the science then math if i remember. You have to check your time always because it logs you out when your time is up. I was logged out on my math section so I couldnt finish. I used the ATI textbook. Some of the questions asked on the text didnt make sense at all. From my point of view, Hesi is easier and more practical. Hope this helps

He'll all, just joined allnurses. Acceptance to GMU letter came in today, now just waiting for April!

Hi everyone, I hope the waiting period is not taking a toll on you. How are you doing Lanekone? Any updates soo far? how is your new CNA job

Hey,

Everything is fine, thanks! I'm working, taking 3 classes and studying for TEAS. I received the GMU acceptance letter (General) about a month ago. I couldn't attend an info session. So when I got an email on 03/01 saying that I had to add GMU to my FAFSA, and the deadline was.. 03/01 :nailbiting: it was a surprise. I rushed home after work and submitted it at 11:35 :) Did you add GMU to your FAFSA?

Work is fine. I enjoy working with the elderly, and it certainly is a great experience. On the negative side, I feel like I hit a plateau pretty quickly. The place is an assisted living facility with the majority of the residents being independent and/or being able to bear weight. I know that working in nursing homes is more challenging. I had my clinicals in a nursing home and I saw some diffucult cases which required a great deal of physical and psychological strength. Where I work, nobody tries to hit me, nobody yells at me, and I rarely have problems with showers. I used hoyer lift just once and learned how to change ostomy appliance. There are moments when I have to deploy and apply all my patience, but they are rare. Not that I want to be hit :jester: (now that I said that I feel like somebody is gonna try to hit me hehe). It's just kinda easy once you learn your routine and thus a bit boring. I try to compensate communicating with the residents as much as possible, doing extra, working fast, working efficiently, multitasking when possible, etc. I keep myself busy, but I do more than required of me.

Anyway, I am very grateful to my employer. They hired me with zero experience. My mother is not afraid to get old anymore )) Most of my coworkers are great. I really really want to work in a hospital and now that I have something on my resume it is just about the time to start looking again. Hmmm... ))

What about you? When are you taking your next TEAS?

Great am glad all is well for you. Am happy you are happy with your job. I also got my admission letter from the school in Feb and yes I added all he schools I applied for on my FASFA. You can always add schools I think. Apart from that, I am just still on the waiting game, I just cant wait till Next month. I really do not want to write TEAS anymore. So I have decided to wait and see what happens with the schools I applied then if nothing happens I can start working on Marymount and a few other schools. So I havent started learning or anything. That TEAS traumatized me really...lol

So far, TEAS has been so much fun for me. I'm studying with a friend, and we keep each other on track. I like that we're brushing up on the basic math and grammar and kinda glad we are not using calculators. I've been wanting to do that, but never had time. I haven't been thinking about April at all. I don't even know why!

I just received an email from the GMU nursing department granting me admission into the Accelerated Second Degree BSN Program for fall 2015!!! Anyone else receive an email? I was looking out for a letter in the mail.

That's awesome. Congratulations sergio. Anyone else heard back?

No!! Now I'm freaking out haha! But congrats!! Maybe they haven't sent out traditional yet?!
