Which stethoscope to buy???

Published

I will start nursing school this fall and need help deciding on some equipment! Should I get the 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. ($80 and a 4.5 star online review) or the 3M Littmann Master Classic II ($105 and a 5 star online review). I am willing to spend the extra bucks if it really makes a difference. Any advice helps!

Oh I should mention the Cardio III is heavy and will hurt your neck. I keep mine in my pocket.

My cousin gave me her Classic II S.E. and so far, I've really enjoyed it. I don't have much experience with stethoscopes...But I used it during my CNA course and it was lightweight and didn't get in my way, plus it also fit in my scrub top pockets!

When I get around to it...before I start RN school, I'm going to either get it engraved or get a cute name tag for it =D

In nursing school, I used a Littmann Classic II S.E. which I loved. Great value and the price isn't so bad, either.

I bought a Cardiology III for my senior year (because of peds and I was precepting on an ICU step-down, so I wanted a better scope + the Cardiology III has a pediatric diaphragm) and I will probably never go back to the Classic II, but for a nursing student, the Classic II is the best bang for your buck imo.

I would also get a brighter color. Express yourself, and like other users have mentioned it has less of a chance of walking off :)

I own both a Master Classic II and a Cardiology III. I greatly prefer the Cardiology III. It fits tighter in to the ears and transmits a much "clearer" sound. Having the peds side that is convertible to a standard bell is an added bonus.

Either way I too vouch for Medisave. The laser engraving was outstanding and it ships the same day if you order it early enough in the day.

Now that I read your comment I am thinking of buying a new stethoscope. Do you happen to know any good websites? Thank you

I just got a Classic II for school in the fall - if you go through Medisave they engrave for free and ship for free and its $70

ETA - just to make sure I know its mine I got the Caribbean Blue tubing and rainbow head and engraving!

I'm a soon to start student and have been looking into different scopes. REgarding the personalization, does anyone know where I could get a stethoscope engraved once I have it in hand? I called a few jewelry stores but they said they can't do it. Any other suggestions?

Same site I linked above will laser engrave your scope for a nominal fee if you send it to them. Granted is has to be a Littmann scope. http://www.medisave.net/littmann-stethoscopes/littmann-stethoscope-engraving-personalization.html

Wow, thanks ScottE! I'm impressed by how inexpensive it is too.

Costs more in shipping than the actual laser etching costs.:lol2:

Booo to that, I didn't look that far.

Any other suggestions that I wouldn't have to pay shipping on?

Maybe a trophy shop locally? The online places I've looked at would cost around $30 with shipping and all that.
