Which Maricopa CC has shortest wait list?

Published

Hello fellow Nursing students,

I took the HESI entrance today at SCC.

Whew! It seemed like I was sitting at that computer forever!

I then walked directly across the way to submit my application.

SUCCESS!

I was date and time stamped and everything...

She then told me the wait list at SCC is approximately 2 years :crying2:

Does anyone know if the other Maricopa colleges have a shorter waiting list???

thanks for the information!

And one more question!!! Is this a separate program? Like as in if I applied my application would be separated from the pool of undergraduate applications? Or is program only for bachelor holders? I wonder if I could apply in december…I am graduating this may…hmmm

Wow, this is exciting news! What exactly are the 9 core classes too? I look at the list on the link I posted, and there seem to be at least 17 courses. Do you know who to contact at ASU if it's something many people know about?

hi guys i hope some of this info helps and since i did not go to the information sessions for this program i dont know some of the answers sorry:crying2: this from my understanding is a totally seperate program. from the information they sent me, right now they are only listing may as a program start date and that's it. as far as the point system goes i think it's gpa based because i dont think i read anything about the net or hesi being required(dont quote me on that one though):)

this is the copied email they just sent me in june:

at some point in the last two years, you expressed interest in a second [color=#366388]degree program in nursing at asu. this concentration has now been developed and is called the post-baccalaureate bachelor of science in nursing (bsn). we are attaching information about this concentration as well as a draft of the checksheet (front and back) and a 'statement of understanding.'

if you have already been in contact with a nursing academic advisor to discuss the traditional pre-licensure bsn, you are not required to attend a bsn information session, although for complete information about our nursing degrees you are encouraged to do so ([color=#366388]http://nursingandhealth.asu.edu/students/info-bsn.htm). instead, you may read through the attached information, review the curriculum checksheet, complete the 'statement of understanding' and return it to us with your unofficial transcripts. once that is completed, you may schedule a one-on-one appointment with one of our nursing academic advisors.

the nine prereqs are; bio 205 and 206, bio 201, bio 202, cde 232, chm 101, hcr 220, hcr240, pgs 101 and statistics.

again this program is strickly for those who already hold a bachelor's degree in another field. in order to apply those 9 have to be done.

i feel a little uncomfortable listing the person's name, but if you pm me i'd be more than happy to give it to you i just called yesterday and they had no idea what i was talking about, but if you go in and speak to an advisor you should be fine.

good luck, i hope i have helped in some way:clown:

That is just so exciting! I emailed a few counselors so if they respond I will let you all know what they are saying. I'll have to cram a few classes in, but I would do it if they allowed me to apply then! What is bio 206? And Crystal74, are you doing the program? Or have you already been accepted somewhere else? I just wonder how big the application pool is, or would be. There is zero information on their website about this, which leads me to believe maybe they aren't publicizing it for a reason ya know?

Hi inspredRN10.. Bio 206 is the lab portion of Micro, but at ASU you can take them seperately at anytime. I have already taken 205 which is the lecture part a long time ago and haven't yet take 206:uhoh3: I dont think I will be able to make this cut because I am still missing 3 of the 9 prereqs and they need to be done by December. I have not been accepted any place else, but I turned in my app for the Maricopa Jr. Colleges in August of last year, so I'm just waiting.

I hope I didn't let anything out of the bag, but I'm sure I didn't. It seems like they are just working out the kincks. For instance I was told by a professor at ASU that they are trying to impose some sort of interview process for people who did not have the GPA. I just found out they are not doing it but were thinking about it. It's just new that's all. Im more than sure it will hit the website soon.

I called ASU this morning and the woman on the phone told me that it is required that everyone attend an information session where they will go over all info for traditional and 2nd degree. Then you make an appointment with an adviser. (If someone has already seen an advisor, I don't think they have to go to the info session)

fifthwheel, did they give you the dates and times? I'm trying to figure out how to post the attatchements they sent me, no such luck yet sorry:confused:

Ok! I went to the information session today. Yes, there are 9 classes. The ones you listed in the previous posts. The GPA of those 9 classes is the only criteria (for now) that determines your acceptance. The application period is only one time a year with the deadline being December 31st. They are looking at getting 46 for this first class, but as of now only 20 have come in for counseling and out of those 20 only 8 or so will actually apply this December. He said the next few years and groups will be new for everyone, so GPA requirements, and any additional requirements they add will be at the last minute. Seems like good news! :)

Thanks for the info:) I was hoping this would work for me, but after speaking the advisor, my gpa is a bit low right now, an by the time I complete the replacement classes for my sciences, I will already hopefully be in at the Maricopa Jr. College. I hope this works for you all.

Good luck:)

The 2 yr wait actually goes by a lot faster than you think :). After you apply, most people still have a few prereqs to complete like BIO202 and BIO205, so by the time you finish those, it's like a 2-3 semester wait. I finished BIO201 in Dec 08, took202 in Spring 09 and 205 in summer 09. My date/time stamp was 2/20/2009 @ 8:02am. I was accepted into the last Banners program, but had to defer due to scheduling conflicts (it was a night/weekend/parttime thing and that didn't work with DH schedule with the kiddos). Anyway, I would have gotten in at MCC this semester, but due to the deferral it'll be Jan 2011. Sooo....it would have taken me 3 semesters to get in, which isn't that bad, plus it went by REALLY fast! Now one of my good friends is in the MCC program and am eagerly following her progress. She says she misses her old life and its only been 3 weeks LOL!!! I laugh now....

As for the ASU thing, if you don't have a really high GPA, it might be difficult to get in. They cut their program a ton over the past few years and as of a year ago, the average gpa for those core classes was about 3.85 for those who were accepted. This new program that you guys are talking about sounds really interesting, as I already have a Bachelors and would love to just go straight for the RN, but at this point I'll be starting at MCC soon enough. Just remember, if you get your ADN, you can be working while your employer pays for you to get your Bachelors! Best of luck to all of us :)!

Melanie

Thanks Melanie, I must admit this process has been a bit discouraging on so many levels. It doesn't help much that most of the women in my family including my mother are all nurses and cant believe when I tell them there is a 2 year wait list. The hardest part is hearing them constantly tell me what a shortage there is even to this day.

The Banner program was absolutely my first choice, and when I didn't make the cut, I didn't even want to continue with my dream of being a nurse. It's encouraging to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If all goes well I should hopefully be in the program by this time next year.

Like you said, good luck to us all:D

Thanks for your response.
